BALOJI (CD)Friday 06.07.12 - 00:30 - Cosmopol Originally, the impeccably dressed Baloji was a member of the popular hip hop collective Starflam. But after having decided to put life as a musician behind him, his Congolese background came knocking on his door. The solo debut album Hotel Impala was a response to a letter from his mother back home in Congo. They hadn’t seen each other for about 25 years. The album became a success and placed Baloji in the field of central European African-inspired hip hop. Congolese funk and raw rumba are ingeniously manifested through soul, rap and Afrobeat in organic hand-played music with French, Swahili and Bantu as native languages; 'Afropean' is what this re-emerging musician calls himself.
