”I love the desert”, Bombino says in the film about him. He's part of the desert nomads the Tuaregs whose music and whole way of life were threatened by the Niger and Mali regimes.

The regime took a strong stance against the song and dance of the whole population, and the guitar was seen as an icon of rebellion. But even during exile, Bombino has managed to secure a home through music.

The guitar player with the rock star potential has become an ambassador for peace through other means than violence. His raw and poetic guitar playing is like witnessing a West African Jimi Hendrix shrouded in desert cloths.
