American country and Mexican mariachi have been the most important coordinates in Calexico’s across-the-border rock.

Since 1996, John Convertino and Joey Burns have played rustic serenades filled with the smell of gritty highways and scorched tex-mex grill spice for fans of both Bruce Springsteen and spaghetti western composer Ennio Morricone.

On Algiers from 2012 the two gringos have ventured to the West Coast of Mississippi in motley New Orleans. Here we find traces of Haiti, Cuba and Africa surging in. The new impressions emphasize the notion of Calexico as a charming crossroads suited for very diverse musical orientations.
