until Roskilde Festival 2014 - 29 June to 6 July

Réunion lies east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. The tiny dot on the map has its own, original music. The ritualistic droning style of Maloya was created by the descendants of black slaves and has a strong appeal to the sense of independence in the islanders.

Despite his partially French origin, Danyel Waro is one of the most outstanding ambassadors of this culture.  The islanders love him as a unique musician, poet, storyteller, freedom fighter and commentator.

Waro's mission is not to make Maloya easily digestible and streamlined for the global audience. He creates a magical presence with this percussion-based music from his native home, which at times can seem to overtake and overwhelm your senses.

Band schedule is ready in May

Roskilde Festival releases the time schedule in May, if everything works out at least somewhat according to plan.

We don’t do it until then to make the best schedule possible for our audience. When we, for various reasons, are forced to make changes late in the process, we have a better chance at putting together a programme that considers both the spreading of genres, the performer's touring plans and safety at the festival.
