Elena Tonra, front woman in Daughter, is only in her early 20s. But her downhearted but very expressive songs have enough bittersweet experience to match the American singer-songwriter queen Cat Power.

Her songs are sparsely arranged – often with the acoustic guitar as the only accompaniment. Tonra's delicate voice is so rich in nuances, colours and blues that a big backing orchestra would seem decidedly misplaced in Daughter's minimal but effective folk.
