Sweden's perhaps most popular rock singer nowadays is called Lars Winnerbäck, a sharp observational troubadour with a bulging song catalogue and a huge ecstatic crowd celebrating him as one of the brightest shining lights of the Swedish songwriting tradition.

Loaded with his poetic lyrics and acoustic guitar, he is in many ways the epitome of the classic folk singer.

However, the Linköping pride is in no way musically stagnant or conservative. On his latest album Tänk om jeg ångrar mig, och sen ångrar mig igen, synthesizers and electric guitars move away from the ballad tradition, which has previously been the popular Swede's domain.
