Since childhood, Mohammad Reza Mortazavi has been remarkably talented with the Persian handheld drum known as the tombak. With shimmering strokes and finger techniques, the Iranian creates a new world of sounds and effects. Delicate and refined but so massively and explosively talented that you almost feel tempted to pinch your arm.

Mortazavi conjures up an almost narrative thread with his simple instrument and puts any theories about the limited capabilities of the drum to shame.
