Quick guide for the search
X

  • Wildcard-Search
With the help of a so-called wildcard you can look for several search words, which have the same word beginning. If you search e.g. for "Typo*", the search will find everything that begins with "Typo" : Typo3, Typoscript, Typocode, Typo3user... etc.
  • Negative search
If you do not want to find certain expressions in your search result, you can cause this with placing a hyphen in front. Terms containing this phrase are excluded from the search result.
  • Search for user
It is possible to limit the search result on answers of certain users. In addition to the retrieval query attach still another "user:username" and find the results, which were written by this certain user. If the username could not be found this will be ignored.

So what´s new, fresh and exciting? The gems in small print? I personally aren´t gonna miss Staff Benda Bilili and specially Bomba Estereo. Both will deliver a party, that´s for sure.

I´ll get back to this..

Amsterdance will be cool, for sure. Also discovered Bellowhead and Nils Frahm after going through the poster, both names who I probably will see. But Bernhoft for me is by far the biggest name in small print! Defiantely a must-see icon_smile.gif

Off the top of my head, Larsen & Furious Jane is a must-see for me. I was pleasantly surprised to see Analogik added as well. If their concert is remotely as much fun as back in '09(?), it's gonna be great. I'm looking forward to Perfume Genius, too.

Kimmo Pohjonen! that guy plays his accordion like a crazy violent shaman. I've seen him many times playing with King Crimson guys Trey Gunn & Pat Mastelotto...

Shaman is a right word for this guy. He´s great. Love that weirder stuff in between the "ordinary shows".

Bellowheads and Jupiter & Okwess International for a party. Maybe The Barons of Tang too.

I'll try and catch The Barons of Tang. I think we're in for an Analogik-style party icon_biggrin.gif

Ten of the small-print must-sees for me:

Mikal Cronin – Really great garage rock. His selftitled debut album from last year is a real gem and so is the 'Tide' EP. For those who dig Ty Segall, Black Lips, Thee Oh Sees, Jay Reatard etc.

Les Freres Smith – I think it says in their profile description that if you dug the Kuti brothers show last year, you will also love this. Couldn't be more fitting. Awesome afrobeat. They put out an album last year which is almost 75 minutes of all-killer-no-filler goodness.

The Megaphonic Thrift – put out arguably the best shoegaze/noisy rock album this year so far, and their reputation as a live band is also solid. Should be a good show.

Red Fang – a no-brainer for fans of Queens of the Stone Age and Valient Thorr. Red Fang sounds like a cross between those two.

Papir – I'm going to skip Causa Sui as they're a bit too jammy for me, but Papir hits a sweet spot between improvisation and steady krautrocky rhythm. There's a free album on Bandcamp and a newer one out now on El Paraiso records.

Analogik – an oldie but a goodie. They've played Roskilde a few times, but recently, with their new album, they've shapeshifted from balkan jesters to a more laidback Mulatu Astatke-esque afro-jazz band. Arguably THE premier Danish world music act.

The Vaccines – solid, fucking catchy brit rockers, whose Coachella-performance really sold me. I've always seen them as a bit of a light-version of The Soft Pack, but that show really changed my outlook on them.

Jonathan Johansson – caught this guy on Malmöfestivalen some years ago, on one of the bigger, outdoor stages. He writes terribly good, new wavey pop rock songs. Dunno if he perhaps could open the Orange stage.

Dead Skeletons – these Icelanders are protegées of Anton Newcombe from The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and their sound is a bit similar – swampy, dreamy psychedelic rock. I'm not entirely convinced by the debut album, but it has enough standout tracks to make me think that it's going to be a great show. And when their songs really work, they're out of this world.

Hospitality – a really nice surprise for me. Upbeat, catchy feminine indie pop reminiscent of the All Girl Summer Fun Band, Wannadies etc. Their debut album is short and sweet – ten songs in half an hour or so, with very little filler.
