  • Wildcard-Search
With the help of a so-called wildcard you can look for several search words, which have the same word beginning. If you search e.g. for "Typo*", the search will find everything that begins with "Typo" : Typo3, Typoscript, Typocode, Typo3user... etc.
  • Negative search
If you do not want to find certain expressions in your search result, you can cause this with placing a hyphen in front. Terms containing this phrase are excluded from the search result.
  • Search for user
It is possible to limit the search result on answers of certain users. In addition to the retrieval query attach still another "user:username" and find the results, which were written by this certain user. If the username could not be found this will be ignored.

Hi,

My genre of choice is electronically based, and the likes of Kraftwerk, Simian Mobile Disco and Crystal Castles are great bookings for this year.

But what other names are there to be acquainted with? I just looked into Dead Can Dance and Holy Other, they sound interesting but I'm not overwhelmed...

What would you recommend? icon_wink.gif

Links and/or videos are appreciated - thanks!

The label Numbers are bringing seven or so of their artists this year. Take a look at that. I especially recommend Rustie.

Cant really recommend much other than those you mentioned. Roskilde doesnt give a shit about electronic music. However there might be hope on the campingsite for some electronic partys.

If they dont give a shit, why do they then keep on booking eletronic names? And have made the Apollo scene?

Considering that 20% of the lineup is purely electronic that might be the silliest comment I have yet to read on here. All of the myriad electronic subgenres might not be represented but around 40 names on the lineup speaks volumes about Roskilde's commitment to that musical continent.

Where is the drum'n'bass? I know that it's impossible to please the entire spectrum of the audience, but I just don't get why there's SO MANY BORING (imho) electronic acts this year.

Well 20% or more is pop and 20% is rock then! Point is: You cant classify electronic as a genre in itself since most music these days actually have electronic elements implemented. There are many indie bands with rock elements as well and many hip hop bands with pop elements but that doesnt make it rock or pop.

I agree. Its boring. No d'n'b and no dance/trance/house/psytrance/minimal.

Roskilde is making a big deal about not every concert has to be a party but can we at least have a few?
Other than Rihanna please!

Well, when I wrote "purely" above, I was actually exclusively counting the names on the lineup who play predominantly electronic music – not all sorts of rock and pop names who just has a slight electronic vibe. If I were to count the names with few electronic elements too and thus names who are only "borderline" electronic, I would end up with something like 30-40%, so there goes that argument out the window.

I agree that there are some genres missing. House definitely isn't one of them with names like Simian Mobile Disco, Disclosure and Friendly Beastly Coyote on the programme, but d'n'b certainly are. Minimal techno is represented by Captain Fufanu. Psytrance is such a narrow niche genre these days that I somewhat understand why it isn't prioritised more.

Tomas Barfod's concert is something I'm looking very much forward to. Salton Sea is one of my favourite electronic records (is sort of house, but with a chilled wave to it)

EDIT: I DID NOT MEANT TO SAY IT'S CHILLWAVE! (a chilled vibe, might have been a better way to put it.)

I haven't gone through too much of the electronic music so far.
But if you're looking for a party, from what I've found, my 50 cents are on Simian Mobile Disco, FRIENDLY BEASTLY COYOTE, bauer, carli, eloq.
On a electronic side not, I think you can also count on c2c to give a hell of a show with a lot of mixed genre, but there will most def be electronic in it.
As I said I still have a long way to go, but do dig into the program.
And btw i saw Crystal Castles in Vega, and I can ASSURE you that it's gonna be sick and a big party

Isn't the Numbers party five different acts or so?

It's in 2009, along with dubstep icon_wink.gif

Joking aside, as dnb actually is moving forward right now, i would have loved to see a bit more bookings in that genre as well. Chase & Status where awesome in 2011

Yes it is, 7 DJs, but it will be an evening curated by the label just like the Amsterdance event last year. If the final Apollo schedule will have a total of 4 acts per day and no other acts on the day of the Numbers showcase we have 8-11 Apollo acts announced (Disclosure might also play cosmo taking into consideration their recent rise in popularity), so my guess is there are a couple of Apollo acts left to be announced.

And yes, I'm also very disappointed there are no DnB acts at all! That's quite a big blank spot to leave from RF's side considering the success of Chase&Status in '11 and the fact that there were 2-3 DnB acts last year.

Also the guys over at the stage schedule post confirm my theory about the Numbers day, with no other Apollo acts announced on friday except Numbers:

Daedelus at Gloria? no.

Yes, I'm pretty sure. His niche-electronica is enough to nearly fill Apollo and the Archimedes show seems much better suited for intimate indoor stages.
