Quick guide for the search
X

  • Wildcard-Search
With the help of a so-called wildcard you can look for several search words, which have the same word beginning. If you search e.g. for "Typo*", the search will find everything that begins with "Typo" : Typo3, Typoscript, Typocode, Typo3user... etc.
  • Negative search
If you do not want to find certain expressions in your search result, you can cause this with placing a hyphen in front. Terms containing this phrase are excluded from the search result.
  • Search for user
It is possible to limit the search result on answers of certain users. In addition to the retrieval query attach still another "user:username" and find the results, which were written by this certain user. If the username could not be found this will be ignored.

Nah, IE doesn't support feeds with DTD's. I highly recommend Firefox as a web browser anyway, I can almost guarantee that you'll never want to touch IE again once you're used to it.

They're really, really handy. The easiest thing is to download RSS Reader. It'll just sit on your desktop in your system tray and you can subscribe to whatever feeds you want (forums, news stories, updates etc) wherever you see the RSS logo on a website. Give it a try!

Positive thoughts? Do you not remember the forum being 'bitch about roskilde' central on the forum last year?

Patience has no place within these walls! :-p

No, they do seem to have fixed that. I've noticed a search function now too, but it doesn't seem to work.

EDIT: Also no Private Messaging icon_eek.gif

It sounds like you're using Internet Explorer 6.0 or older - on behalf of everybody who somehow work with Digital media I urge you to pleeeease upgrade to IE7.0 - IE6.0 is the currently one of the largest security threats you can have on your PC, as well as being the browser with the least support for web standards, ie. RSS. And it really sucks that we still have to support it because a lot of people won't upgrade, don't know how to upgrade or can't because they're running an illegal version of Windows XP.

Well, they should just get Firefox. Problem sorted

Or one of the other browsers that support RSS feeds, like Opera, Chrome, Safari and IE7.0+

It's now official!

This new forum is not anywhere near the fun as the last one. I'm getting more and more annoyed as time goes by!

Can someone associated with the festival please tell us if your working on some of the issues that we have brought to your attention here (I expect you read the forum and give a shit)

We are working on a search function at the moment, which has been requested. Can you please list other issues?

Things that people/I miss from the old forum:

-show latest new responses/unread threads
-the karma count
-personal messages
-not always being able to modify your posts

When you log in, icons show where there are new posts since your last visit. But the forum does not present it in 'list form' - if that's what you are referring to.

Sorry, it isn't supported at the moment. Maybe it will be in a later version.

This will come in some form later on - but it will not be limited to the forum. It will work all over the website. So imagine, wherever you see a user name, you can click the name and send the user a message via a form (of course, no e-mail addresses will be shown) and reCAPTCHA (to avoid spam bots).

Isn't it a good thing that people can't change something they've already written (unless it's the latest post in a thread)? It can really mess up a thread history...

Okay, nice with the info.

I personally dont care about the "show the latest responses" on list form, but others seem to. Its a shame that the karma count is missing, but okay. Personal messages would be really useful in the last couple of months before the festival, but if it will work the way you mentioned before..."its too late", that seems fine. And yes, modifying your posts can get out of hand but it still is a nice option in my opinion.

Yes, that is the exact feature that I imagine most will miss. Having a "show new post"-button is one of the most crucial features of a forum. I know tons of people that will actively avoid visiting fora that doesn't have it.

Aboslutely not. You should either have time limited editting or only the option to edit your last post, both options just for spell check and clarification purposes. A thread starter should have the option of editing the first post unlimited however for updating purposes.

I guess you give a shit icon_razz.gif

The biggest problem is not getting a list of new posts, and also the fact that (I can't find it at least) a link that brings you straight to new posts!

If you get the things listed elsewhere in this thread going you won't get many complaints I think icon_smile.gif

BTW: You should have let us now when you would change the forums.. In hindsight this obviously. You could have sent an e-mail "tomorrow at da da da, we will da da da. Sp be patienticon_wink.gif )

- Go to last unread post in a thread.
- When posting, I have to press "tab" three times to get to "send". It would be more logical that tab goes first to "send/post", than "preview" and later search (which is first now).

When you're on the forum front-page, you can click the small 'red arrow icons' to right, which will take you to the latest post. I will look into if a list is possible/available.

We did send out e-mails to all registered users of the old forum, saying that we would soon switch. If you did not receive one, it was probably caught in a filter, I suspect.

This takes me to the last post, not to the last unread post. Sorry, but this is useless, in my opinion. And the red arrow does not disappear when all posts in the thread has been read.

Btw, maybe I should explain why I think a "show new posts"-button is essential to any forum.

Several fora poster behaveial studies have shown that when a new poster registers they will typically spend a fair amount of time looking at interesting threads, and from that point on exclusively use the "new posts"-button to navigate the site. This is because the typical poster frequents several fora, and therefore want an easy way to sort data in different fora, so as to not be burdened with having to remember which threads are they have already read.

And although this forum does have a "jump to new post"-button, these are seperate for each topic area and does not show in which particular thread the newest post is made to, therefore the feature as it is, is basically useless.
