Quick guide for the search
X

  • Wildcard-Search
With the help of a so-called wildcard you can look for several search words, which have the same word beginning. If you search e.g. for "Typo*", the search will find everything that begins with "Typo" : Typo3, Typoscript, Typocode, Typo3user... etc.
  • Negative search
If you do not want to find certain expressions in your search result, you can cause this with placing a hyphen in front. Terms containing this phrase are excluded from the search result.
  • Search for user
It is possible to limit the search result on answers of certain users. In addition to the retrieval query attach still another "user:username" and find the results, which were written by this certain user. If the username could not be found this will be ignored.

The biggest problem is not getting a list of new posts, and also the fact that (I can't find it at least) a link that brings you straight to new posts!

When you're on the forum front-page, you can click the small 'red arrow icons' to right, which will take you to the latest post. I will look into if a list is possible/available.

BTW: You should have let us now when you would change the forums.. In hindsight this obviously. You could have sent an e-mail "tomorrow at da da da, we will da da da. Sp be patienticon_wink.gif )

We did send out e-mails to all registered users of the old forum, saying that we would soon switch. If you did not receive one, it was probably caught in a filter, I suspect.

Soon could mean a lot. I can't remember I got a mail with at specific date. icon_wink.gif

Am I the only one on here getting just a little bit annoyed that every time, I log in, I'm being directed to my profile editor?

I would like to be directed to the front page of the forum, or at least to be given the choise between going to the forum, or my profile editor.

Thanks in advance. I for one am happy with the opportunity to use the scrollbare on the right, and getting rid of the Karma count icon_smile.gif

To Anders Hjortkær Christensen:

I guess the only essential problem there is (well, to me, at least) is the fact that the icon with the red arrow brings me to the latest post.. and not first unread post - I refuse to look through several pages of posts to find the place I've reached at my last visit at the forum. If you understand?

A list of updated threads is obviously very handy (updated posts since last visit)... but as long as that red arrow icon is doing what it's supposed to, well, the list is only luxury for me.

But please, fix that icon problem soon...

Thanks very much for your official responses. It's obviously important to address the concerns of the regular posters.

I'm sure we can all live without the Karma feature, we only used it because it was there. It was a little bit of fun, but it does not help the discussion in any way. I'm personally not too bothered about the 'View unread posts since last visit' feature we had before. Again, I sometimes used it because it was there, but I only started using it once I realised that it existed.

Also, I agree about being directed to the 'Edit Profile' page whenever you login. Ideally, the user should be directed back to the page they were on when they chose to login, that'd be the best solution. As for the Edit feature, I think it's good in some ways. I often think of something I want to add after I've submitted. On the other hand, I don't see the spelling thing to be an issue. It's easy just to click the 'Preview' button and check through it before you submit.

Once the search is up and running, I think things will be fine. What would really be good is a 'who is online' feature. Is such a thing included with this system? It's just nice to know who is currently on the forum, especially when private messaging is up and running. If you see someone online, you may wish to PM them.

That's the other thing I forgot to mention. An option to stay logged in would be a really good idea.

My biggest problem at the moment is indeed the "Show unread threads since last visit".

The editing lock is just silly. Look at people like DeepZone with his movie thread or USLANDER on the old forum with his meet threads. At least topic starters should be able to edit their post without limit.

I would also like to see some more customization options for the layout, especially the ability to not display avatars, images and emoticons to be able to browse the forum "more discretely" (the forum now being permanently framed doesn't help either).

I hope the forum can be more integrated into the site as well. Set up a thread for every news story (now it just links to the forum index). Maybe even include links to the forum from "practical".

Does anybody know what that is all about?

It sounds like you're using Internet Explorer 6.0 or older - on behalf of everybody who somehow work with Digital media I urge you to pleeeease upgrade to IE7.0 - IE6.0 is the currently one of the largest security threats you can have on your PC, as well as being the browser with the least support for web standards, ie. RSS. And it really sucks that we still have to support it because a lot of people won't upgrade, don't know how to upgrade or can't because they're running an illegal version of Windows XP.

No, I'm using IE7.0 and unfortunately don't have the possibility of switching o other products on my work pc due to company policy

You're right - I was a little bit to quick there. IE7.0 doesn't support DTDs in RSS-feeds for security reasons. It does however seem that the DTD-reference has been removed from the RSS-feed. Could you try it again? I know it works now on my Windows PC with IE7 http://www.roskilde-festival.dk/forum/rss/

Nah, IE doesn't support feeds with DTD's. I highly recommend Firefox as a web browser anyway, I can almost guarantee that you'll never want to touch IE again once you're used to it.

Yeah and while people are at it they should scrap that M$ Windows piece of crack and get a properly secured and free operating system
Once you have experience the thrill and ease of opensource software you will never want to sell your soul to Microsoft again.

Any way to be kept logged in, even if you turn off the computer and come back on? I hate logging in every time I come back.

Another thing - the posts per page has been changed to 25. It doesn't seem right, somehow. I'd make it 15 at most.

I strongly disagree! At least 20. 20-30 posts per page is great. (I'd actually prefer 50 posts/page to 10-15!)

And stop logging me out! Please fix cookies with longer duration as soon as possible.

heres my main problems with the new forum:
Like many others I want to stay logged in
I would like to be able to add some text under my avatar picture
I would like there to be some kind of indication of where im from, maby a flag or just plain text with Norway written over/under my avatar
I would like a Signature, or maby just a feature to add witch years you have attended instead
And last i really, really miss the Show posts since last visit link.

More posts per page, is great and the Karma count wont be missed icon_smile.gif

I don't know. I don't see that as a specific problem.

In Opera you just press ctrl+enter (autologin) and hold right mouse button + click left mouse button (back), hold right mouse button + rotate mouse clockwise (refresh).
