  • Wildcard-Search
With the help of a so-called wildcard you can look for several search words, which have the same word beginning. If you search e.g. for "Typo*", the search will find everything that begins with "Typo" : Typo3, Typoscript, Typocode, Typo3user... etc.
  • Negative search
If you do not want to find certain expressions in your search result, you can cause this with placing a hyphen in front. Terms containing this phrase are excluded from the search result.
  • Search for user
It is possible to limit the search result on answers of certain users. In addition to the retrieval query attach still another "user:username" and find the results, which were written by this certain user. If the username could not be found this will be ignored.

With one week to the big announcement I think that is was time to start the topic.
I'm counting 89 bands atm. so unless there are some bands left to be announced on Wednesday there will be around 90 bands revealed on next Thursday plus the usual approx 20 bands that comes after the big release.

As I said elsewhere on this forum I think that we will see bigger names than usual because of the new set up and promotion of the poster release but what are your thoughts about it, am I the only one dead exited.

I've got my bet on 2 headliners plus another after the poster release, 5-10 subliners and then a big line of small print names.

Just give me Jack White and I´m happy with Orange (maybe a Saturday afternoon-sitting on grass-sunlight gig with Alison Krauss). I´m hoping more for quality acts on the smaller stages, ones I´ve never heard about before. Maybe one finnish band would be nice.

I guess about 20 acts still coming are for that new stage. I´m not that big of a fan of electonic music, so that leaves me 80-90 bands to still look forward to. And that´s a lot. Clashes, clashes.

My guess is, that you just might be right.

And no, Bongo Anders, you´re not the only one dead exited. icon_wink.gif

Have you read my post? I dont whine! I said I cant do that becores it is a good line up, just not so much in my tast. If I was whining, I would have said it was a crapy lineup.. but it is not... I know it is hard for you understand that the lineup can be good, just becores it is not 1 man´s dream...

So only if you have some bollocks and actually state your opinion outright, then you whine? Well, glad you can be pleased on others behalf, although I don't know what for. The lineup is so weak, in my opinion obviously, that I don't know where to start. I looked through it Yesterday, and was baffled. I don't understand how they even have the nerve to offer up something like that, and the big release better be good or they'll not sell out this year. I swear on it.

Anyways: Not wanting to start a fight here, just a bit bored these days and I generally like your posts.

I understand why you see my posts as whining, that's fair enough. Wont deter me from speaking my mind though. I think when it comes to RF people are overly positive on the festivals behalf and extremely touchy on negative criticism.

My point is that after the first releases I thought this year saw a shift in focus and we were going to be served up a really nice lineup. Since the Roots there hasn't been any significant release that I can think off and hence why I looked through the bands Yesterday.

90% of the bands this year is totally not bands of magnitude that should be booked at one of the biggest festival in the world. Unless: They are all meant to be bottom of the list and that the big release is where all the big guns will come out.

Now; I always try to put forward my opinions and that's why I don't see it as whining as I seldom spill my dummy. I throw in the occasional provocative post, like the one you reacted to, but that's it. If you look closely at my posts there is not a lot of "bu hu hu, whining" in my posts, just a lot of not so positive opinions about this years roster backed up by what I think are good arguments. I welcome anyone to tackle the ball and not the person- the way constructive debate is supposed to be. If we were all of the same opinion, this forum would be dead.

You don't get Roskilde at all do you?

The thing with Roskilde is that the festival has always booked loads of small and unknown bands. Nothing new this year. With Pavillon, Pavillon Junior, Gloria, (Astoria) and that new electronic stage the festival has a lot of spots to fill with small unknown bands. This has been a priority for Roskilde for many years.

I understand why you're disappointed year after year by the Roskilde lineup. It's about expectations. The 10% you dig are the headliners and subliners. You expect the remaining 90% to be of the same magnitude, and this is where the film breaks. There are maybe 30-35 slots or so at Orange and Arena to be filled by headliners, subs and the occasional smaller band with arena rock qualities (Asian Dub Foundation, Den Sorte Skole, Flogging Molly, Shantel and Wilco are good examples of small print names who could fill the Arena tent up pretty nicely when they played there across the past decade). If your wet dream of a lineup was to come true, it would require an entirely different set of stages. Like five exact copies of the Arena tent instead of the smaller, more intimate stages that Roskilde has now and has had for donkey's years now.

Let's dig into twenty of the smaller names:

There is a plethora of great hiphop names in the programme:
A$AP Rocky, Mac Miller, Royce da 5'9", Wiz Khalifa and Yelawolf.

There is the slew of Southern rock and metal names, presented as a "theme" one day:
Baroness, Crowbar, Hank 3, Red Fang and Weedeater.

There is a pretty solid electronica handful:
Paul Kalkbrenner, Martyn, Shlohmo and Toddla T.

There is a very respectable Scandinavian indie/rock broadside:
120 Days, Dead Skeletons, Sivert Høyem, I Got You On Tape, Jonathan Johansson and Larsen & Furious Jane.

Yeah, they are billed in small print, but that doesn't mean that they're unworthy acts. Most have several albums out, years of a career and draw crowds of thousands when they're playing at festivals. You just haven't discovered them yet.

And THEN there are the 40-50 extremely small bands for the warmup stages. Your statement would objectively ring true, if the percentage you mentioned reflected the warmup bands who make up half of the announced names so far.

Please, Robbie Fowler, Martin Horn and others, stop the goddamn childish fighting - you guys are supposed to be the veterans in here! I read posts from you with great appreciation for your knowledge and experience, but it aches my heart to see how two supposedly grown men can bitch like that. Just thought I'd point that out.

Anyway, Bongo Anders: NO! I totally agree with you; RF have been promoting the big line-up release a lot this year, so i think we can expect some great artists next thursday. Be they legendary stadium sized bands or smaller, more intimate acts i wouldn't know, but that day can't come soon enough!

What do we have left to be announced, i made a little list of what i think we are missing.

Apollo Countdown - is all booked

Pavilion Jr - is missing from what i can count 1 artist.

Gloria - all 26 (if last years schedule is to go by)

Apollo - 3 announced acts (Schlomo, Toddla T and Martyn)
Maybe the set times are a little bit longer than the bands performing at Gloria so i would say maximal 23 artist left.

Pavilion - also around 26 bands on this stage and it´s hard to judge but i´m guessing that we at this moment have around 5 to 10 artist so around 15 to 21 slots left for this stage.

I dont have a clear idea about who will play Odeon, Cosmopol and/or Arena but maybe we know a little bit more on Thursday

Orange - Thursday will be like last year with one opening act and then only The Cure to play later in the evening.

Friday and sunday will have 4 slots but i think that Saturday will only have 3 slots with Alison Krauss (if booked) and Bruce Springsteen taking the first two spots at 17:00 and 19:30 and then the last one around midnight.

So 13 Orange names and with Björk, Bruce, Mew, The Roots (or Wiz Khalifa) and The Cure booked we have 8 slots left and i think that both Alison Krauss and Jack White and the regular opening act is taken so in reality only 5 bands left for the Orange stage.

don't think there will be bigger names in the poster release, just because they have promoted the poster day more! that is just because the day has turnd more into an event over the past 2 years. before, when the names and poster just poped up at the decided date, there were nothing more to it, but now they present it themselves and live stream it, that makes it an event, and causes more promoting!

There is nothing wrong in having high expectations just as long as they are within limits of reality and as long i don´t expect all the trance DJ´s in the world to be announced then i think its a shame that anyone should point fingers at anyone because they are exited for the poster release.

I know that i probably don´t know half the names released and that only 10 % of the names will get me exited but if we can´t discuss the poster then why have a debate forum.

The last couple of years most of the pav jr names have been released on the poster day but now almost all of them are released before leaving room for the bigger stages
And i don´t mean bigger as in Beatles, Bieber or Beethoven just that we will have more Arena, Odeon and Orange names than usual.

So far when looking at the lineup i can´t find that many obvious Arena names, only Bon Iver, Friendly Fires, I Got You On tape, Kalkbrenner, Rubén Blades, Lee Ranaldo, Boubacar Traore/ Terakaft and one or more of the hip hoppers. and last year there were 19 slots at Arena so around 10 Arena names and 8 Orange names is alot in one release.

I am one of the 5 dedicated fans chosen to be there. So I will be there all day. Aleg-one & Weiss will be there for blastbeast.dk, so aleast 3 of us will be there for the press stuff.

@ Thyrrestrup

I think there will be big name, we headlineres and a lot of subsheadlines still. How big the names will be is hard to say, but I am sure a lot of well known names will come up, and whit sonisphere uk cancelled the chances is higher

the biggest problem is that people expect bands that are not touring, both here and on facebook there are a lot of posts requesting foo fighters, tenacious D, and so on.. and they are mostly either not touring or in the us at the given date.. or booked at other festivals in denmark earlier in the year.. i mean it's a shame and all.. but.. meh.. however i do agree with the statement that since the roots there havent really been any "big names"

Just my two cents..

Anything from this point is just extra cheese on the pizza. I had enough bands to motivate me into buying my ticket weeks ago. Something I'm not used to.

I still hope there will be some bands playing like

Amon Tobin
Shellac (!!!)
Machine Head
Pulp
Jack White
The Shins
Zola Jesus (sure she played in DK and Sweden, but so did Swans before Roskilde)
Explosions in the sky
Low

To all of you with your childish attack on me personally. Thanks for proving my point! Going after the person rather than the opinion.

I'll get back to you once I'm sober.

But yeah, I don't get Roskilde (this will be my 15th or 16th time or whatever, lost track) or think that the other 90% if the lineup should be names the size of Bruce Springsteen.... Ha ha ha! And you tell me I don't get it. Try reading my post. Too much to ask? That's what I thought AND said would happen. Why should I take into board the opinions of people who can't string more than two sentences together?

Laughable. I baited you and you all hooked

I expect a lot of the people on this forum to be Apple fan boys, believing the hype rather than thinking independently, and to think iPhone is the best thing since sliced bread.

Gullible, you'll love whatever is served to you
