Design a corner of Roskilde Festival

Submit a plan and design for an urban installation to Poor City in our open architecture competition.

The Danish Architecture Centre and Roskilde Festival are proud to announce an open design competition with a special focus on engaging, temporary architecture.
The competition is called Build What Here, and you don’t have to be an architect to participate. It is open for everybody regardless of professional esteem or nationality, and it gives participants the opportunity to submit their best ideas on the design and building plan of Poor City.

Poor City is part of our Statement campaign about poverty and inequality. The area, located in the at Roskilde Festival’s camping zone M, focuses attention on communicating the important issue of the conditions for young asylum seekers in Scandinavia. The vision of Build What Here is to promote this cause through the creation of an interesting, functional, sustainable and engaging installation.

Build What Here will operate through the open innovation platform, Innosite.dk. This means that the ideas for the contest are continuously developed and improved through feedback from site users, competition authorities, representatives from Roskilde Festival and The Danish Architecture Centre and, last but not least, the festival audience.
The winning proposal will provide the framework for the many activities that will take place in Poor City during the festival.

  • The competition is open from 17 January to 1 March 2012.
  • The winner, decided by an committee, will be announced by the end of March and will be awarded with tickets to the festival and the opportunity to have his or her project idea realised.
  • The winning proposal, along with other notable entries, will be included in an exhibition at The Danish Architecture Centre in May 2012.
