tirsdag 03.07.12 Camp of the Day: Tennis players serve the environmentThe lines of the tennis court are painted orange: This camp is built on true Roskilde spirit and orange feeling. Several years ago these guys discovered the positive effect a tennis game has on hangovers. After focusing on tennis for several years, Frederick Bjerager Christensen and the 17 other guys from the camp started thinking about the environment too: "We started wondering about the mess out here. We often left our camp looking like a dump site," he explains. The boys have built a sound system powered by solar panels. This year they even biked the 45 miles from Copenhagen to the festival to reduce CO2 emissions. Wednesday is no-meat-day and the guys from the camp arrange a garbage lottery where people get a beer every time they hand in garbage bag. "We want to make people aware of how to reduce their waste", Frederick Bjerager Christensen claims. There’s a forum on the camp website where people exchange ideas for energy-saving solutions for the festival. The guys take five to celebrate the Camp of the Day election, when a girl stops by: "You should play some tennis!”, a Björn Borg-clone with sweatbands shouts. Immediately another match is underway...
