onsdag 23.05.12 Dr. John to play Roskilde Festival 2012Today's new music announcements span a genre spectrum from silver-grey voodoo rock to young electronica. We welcome the brightest times of the year with music from different genres, filled with a sunny taste. DR. JOHN and THE LOWER 911 feat. JON CLEARY (US) give a demonstration of what the music city New Orleans excels in. Since the acid-rocking breakthrough with Gris-Gris from the late 60s, Dr. John's swampy voodoo funk rock has become an institution. The great medicine man's latest album, Locked Down, is a round of classic swinging roots rock filled with golden Farfisa organ, brass, female choir singers and a well-oiled showy feel. AFRICA HITECH (UK) consists of two experienced and respected lads in progressive electronic music, Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek. With Africa Hitech the two Brits weave together a global-scented sound tapestry that contains traces of not only Africa and the Caribbean but also Chicago and London's steamy nightclubs. GIRAFFAGE (US) conjures an impressionistic sound full of warm synthesizers and hazy memories of summer holidays. At the same time, the solar-heated, electronic tracks carry enough challenging rhythms and quirky details, making this music for both ears, nostalgia and the mind.
