onsdag 14.03.12 Roskilde Festival donates ambulance to SyriaTwo ambulances will soon drive into Syria to help the wounded civilians. The first ambulance was paid for by the readers of Danish newspaper Politiken. The second ambulance is donated by Roskilde Festival to Politiken's relief aid collection. Each ambulance has a value of approx. EUR 50,000 and will help save lives in Syria. The ambulances will be used for evacuation of the wounded so that they can get treatment at a clinic or a hospital. While the Syrian government troops and rebel forces are fighting, civilians suffer tremendously during the riots. According to Red Cross, snipers, bullets and bomb attacks are everyday occurences for increasingly more Syrians. And there is little help. Red Cross is among the few international aid organisations present in Syria. To us the world just seems to watch as more and more innocent people die in Syria. And it pains us even more to see how difficult it is getting relief into the country. When we saw Politiken's collection for an ambulance collection among their readers, we were not in doubt. We wanted to support this compassionate initiative. Therefore, Roskilde Festival donates funds to another ambulance in Syria. Politiken's readers have at the time of writing donated more than EUR 58,000. The rest of the money will go to medical supplies. The profit from Roskilde Festival goes in full to charitable causes, and the festival has helped victims of the earthquake in Pakistan, victims of the war in Iraq, and Doctors Without Borders among many, many more.
