Terakaft is not going to make it to Roskilde Festival 2012. Instead we have a worthy replacement from the same musical universe.

TAMIKREST (MALI) plays a sunburnt desert blues that leans faithfully on the style of both Terakaft and former Roskilde darlings from the desert, Tinariwen. With soothing electric guitars, hypnotic percussion and female backing vocals and the high-pitched, trilling vocal sounds known as ululation, Tamikrest create their own tracks in the golden, dry landscape. Tamikrest will fill the slot in the band schedule that was originally intended for Terakraft.

Again this year Roskilde Festival is experiencing how visa troubles hinder planned tours for bands from afar. Roskilde Festival's Peter Hvalkof, the music booker of most world music, says:

"Due to a situation similar to civil war in Mali, Terakaft has had to give up applying for visas in both Mali, Algeria and Burkina Faso, where the Danish visa consul had otherwise kindly made her assistance available. Tamikrest is however already in Europe, so they can easily fill the slot in band schedule. We have been looking forward to presenting Terakaft, but we are considering Tamikrest to be valid replacement."
