Hello food!By Ditte Clemen Translated by Maria Lillegaard Hansen ”It looks like a place you want to revisit”, Chili John says before we take our seat on the tree stumps near Soupanatural in West. We have just bought the oat meal porridge. “It is good and solid food for people who have been bobbling down in their camp”, the Roskilde veteran explains while tasting the porridge. “If you dug up a Viking and analysed his stomach content we would not be far off – except for the pineapple”. Chili John takes another spoonful of porridge with pieces of fruit. He thinks it lacks a bit of salt, but if you remember to bring some salt yourself, the oat meal porridge is highly recommendable. Verdict: 3+ chillis Price: DKK 30 (approx. € 4) ”It looks very Italian. The place is not crowded and the pizza is not dripping”, says Chili John and tips his pizza slice from Ecological Pizza in West to the side. The pizzas are named after the stages at Roskilde Festival and naturally, Chili John is having a slice of Arena with ham. The photographer grabs an Odeon with beef and pepper while I get a Cosmopol with artichokes and olives. The crust is crisp and there is a perfect amount of cheese on the pizzas. “It reminds me of the time when Harly and I were in Naples – where pizza is originally from”, Chile John says and chews along even though the chef has been a little bit too generous with the oregano. Verdict: 3+ chillis Price: DKK 25 (approx. € 3,5) Under a stripy tent canvas in East lies Det Gyldne Brød – which means the golden bread. Here sunburned festival goers can enjoy freshly baked bread and sandwiches in the shade. Chili John orders a bun with sliced cold meat. “It is not the healthiest thing on the planet, but it tastes great. The bread is fresh and the meat could easily be from the butcher’s. It definitely surpasses most gas stations”, Chili John says. The old rock chef is pretty impressed that a bakery is put up in the middle of the camping area. That is pretty classy. “The sandwiches look good too. You could live a couple of days on this food without getting tired of it”, Chili John says. Verdict: 4 chillis Price: DKK 16 (approx. € 2,5) The gigantic Burger de Luxe banners can be seen in both East and West, so naturally we have to try the big burgers. “At first it looks impressing but the cheese in a cheese burger has to be melted. The only thing that has melted these two slices is the sun. Also, the meat is cold and rubber-like”, Chili John complains and throws out most of the burger. He is not satisfied with the service either which he finds it a little too cocky and marked by hangovers. It is not likely that he will eat here again. Verdict: 2 chilis Price: DKK 60 (approx. € 8) | ![]() Photo: Tobias Nørgaard Pedersen |
