  • Wildcard-Search
With the help of a so-called wildcard you can look for several search words, which have the same word beginning. If you search e.g. for "Typo*", the search will find everything that begins with "Typo" : Typo3, Typoscript, Typocode, Typo3user... etc.
  • Negative search
If you do not want to find certain expressions in your search result, you can cause this with placing a hyphen in front. Terms containing this phrase are excluded from the search result.
  • Search for user
It is possible to limit the search result on answers of certain users. In addition to the retrieval query attach still another "user:username" and find the results, which were written by this certain user. If the username could not be found this will be ignored.

A nifty little feature about last.fm is that you can sort a festival's lineup by popularity among the listeners out there.

http://www.last.fm/festival/3389054+Roskilde+Festival+2013/lineup?sort=popularity#all
While there are few surprises in the order the bands appear in, there are some interesting observations in Roskilde's current lineup:

  • Rihanna is about twice as popular as any of the other headliners even amongst last.fm-users (read: more likely music nerds than casual listeners)

  • Crystal Castles is the most popular subheadliner, rivaling even The National. Based on this they basically could have headlined.

  • Kraftwerk sits below Crystal Castles, Animal Collective and BRMC and very close to Simian Mobile Disco.

  • Calexico, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Ensiferum and The Lumineers are all well up amongst the subheadliners in popularity, despite being small-print names on the poster.

  • Summer Heart, Lemâitre, Urban Cone, Binärpilot and Elliphant are the five most popular Pavilion Junior/Apollo Countdown names. In at least the first two and Binärpilot's case that may be attributed to easy access to their music via Bandcamp and the like.

  • Volbeat is the least popular headliner, which may be attributed to nationality, and Chelsea Light Moving is the least popular subheadliner, which might be because the band hasn't existed for more than a year or so. Add Thurston Moore's listeners as a solo artist on top of that and the playing field looks a little more level.
