So, another year gone... Did you get to see who you intended to see, or did you get dragged along to all kinds of borefests?
For the most part, I got a fair amount of what I intended to see, and a few surprises... Short reviews - of what I (somewhat) remember seeing:
***___ Hammonds, Harrington & Destroy
Let down by a limited audience, and it showed in their performance.
**____ Tôg
Just not my kind of music, but the rest of the, mostly Norwegian, audience seemed to enjoy it.
****__ Essence
The opposite end of the spectrum - not my kind of music either, but loved the energy and presence in this one. And the Slayer cover was surprisingly .
*****_ Honningbarna
Had lots of fun here. Punk rock with a good shot of aggressiveness and attitude, unlike...
*_____ De Høje Hæle
Pointless poodle punk.
**____ Battlekat
We got bored after 20 minutes and left. Surprised how small the attendance was, considering their self-hype.
**____ Foals
Zzzzzz... Missed a lot of good stuff because of being dragged to this indie-rock-bordering-on-indie-pop crap without any presence or real energy.
*****_ Iron Maiden
Sadly had to leave after Dickinson's talk about Roskilde 2000. Up until then, they were truly rocking as only metalheads can at that age.
***___ PJ Harvey
Concert didn't really get going until the last song. Didn't see the start, obviously, but it was too muted for Arena - and, as expected, Love Camp's constant bass drone seeped through a lot of the time, until we'd gotten to the middle of the tent.
****** Charles Bradley
I'm normally a cynic about these things, but man... That guy is so full of emotion and heartfelt music. Wow.
*****_ Seun & Femi Kuti
Seun won. 5 for him, 4 for Femi. 6 for the two together.
****__ Swans
Had really been looking forward to this, but meh. They were a bit too much in noise-mode for a Friday night - and, worse, didn't seem to connect with anyone. Can't blame the audience - Swans just seemed to be somewhere else.
*****_ Anna Calvi
... surprisingly (to me) rocks!
?????? (quickly checking on) Odd Future
As expected, lots of energy, no musicality. Expected that concert to be the biggest hit of the festival, in terms of those showing up loving it. Seems I was right. Not going to be unfair and give a rating for 5 minutes, though.
***___ Kaizers Orchestra
In the pit. They've never beaten their 2003 performance at Arena. And now it seems too late. After a 5 year break (since the Viva la Vega concert in 2005, and Orange in 2006), I decided to give them another chance. At least they were slightly mixing up their usual act, but the resulting cocktail didn't work at all. They're much better suited to the dark and relative intimacy of Arena anyway. This rating is by Kaizers standards, though. Any other band performing like they did Saturday, and the rating might have been 4 or even 5/6.
**____ TV on the Radio
Actually way too focused. No spontaneity, so left after 20 minutes for...
****__ The Ex
Almost deserted stage, maybe 60 people. But a lot of fun and genre-bending - helped a lot by Roy Paci's trumpet, which somehow added a bit of the tightness they often lack.
*****_ Congotronics vs. Rockers
Sadly had to leave after 20 minutes - truly fresh stuff.
****** Chris Cunningham
Brilliant. Disturbing - which shouldn't surprise anyone knowing him. What was somewhat more surprising was his musical skills. And his ability to create totally uncompromised beauty in the Gil Scott-Heron piece at the end.
*_____ deadmau5
One star for the party. Other than that, bafflingly monotonous and unmusical. As far as I recall, gave him 5 stars for his Cosmopol appearance. Maybe I was too stoned then to realize just how pointless his music is - especially in a "live" setting.
****__ Kitchie Kitchie Ki Me O
Pretty damn good is all I remember, I must admit.
*****_ Bad Religion
Pit. Fun. Nostalgia. Not exactly youthful punk energy, but never expected it to be.
****__ AfroCubism
Would have gotten 5 if it wasn't for the other world-musical mix-up experiment (see above: Congotronics vs. Rockers) and me beginning to get tired.
ETA: A few clarifications and tidbits.

****___1349[b]
Nice way to open the festival. I wasnt in the mush pit but these guys gave their best with some serious head bangning.
***___[b]Cody
Pretty relaxed but not quite what I wanted before going to Iron Maiden
****___Iron Maiden It was good but not great. They played too many songs from their newest album and they didnt play "Run to the hills"!! I mean wtf! thats 1 star less right there.
******___Parkway Drive Insane. Have never felt that much energy in Odeon before and the leadsinger was perfect at reaching out to the crowd.
*****___Mastodon Never thought I would say this but it was actually too loud where I was standing. Still a great performance and better than I expected.
**___OFWGKTA After all the hype of this band I expected more. Also the tent was too crowded and the sound could have been better.
****___Kayzers orchestre Got dragged to this concert but the leadsinger was great and I got a nice possitive surprise at Orange stage
****___Soilwork I was too stoned when they played but I remember it as being pretty good.
******___Deadmau5 6 stars for the party, the sound and to the organizers for having the guts to put Deadmau5 on Orange. It was a completely new and unique experience to be part of such a massive rave.
Bonus concert: ******___Von Dü at Orange Camp on wedensday. Wow that was intense.
I did listen to more concerts than listed but not for long enough to rate them.

Odd Future *****_ It was awsome. The immense tension Created by hodgy and tyler and the slick mike g's slick rhymes. The sound could be alot better though, but it was still awesome
Portishead ***___
I liked it, wasnt amazed.
Deadmau5 **___
wow.. that sucked. Deadmau5 claims to be progressive house. But that show was so repetetive.
Big Boi ****__
Nothing to serious, just fun. All the old outkast classics, from Atliens to ms jackson
Chase and Status ****__
Great party, the sweat was drippin' from the roof. There was lack of oxygen though.

Tame Impala - ***
I really like their basic sound, but only half of their songs were really well-composed and performance-wise I expected a bit more from them.
PJ Harvey - *****
Really good concert. I'm not very familiar with her songs, but I was really impressed by the precision of her songwriting and how creatively they were arranged. I'll definitely be checking out more of her music in the future.
Electric Wizard - **
I really like heavy, psychedically tinged riff-based metal, so I enjoyed the first 10 minutes of this concert thoroughly. When the band had basically been repeating themselves for 45 minutes or so, though, I decided I'd much rather go see Red Warszawa and get smashed. Which brings me to...
Red Warszawa - ****** or *
They played at Orange Camp friday at the same time as Electric Wizard, so I only got to see the last five minutes of the "concert". They played to a crowd of about 50-60 people, almost half of which were crowdsurfing - the chaos was just indescribable. I got three man-asses shoved into my face, a girl*s shin smashed into my skull and had a random guy unexpectedly jump me from behind while attempting to crowdsurf. When the band was done playing, the drummer threw his "drum kit" (actually a sack truck banged on by plastic tennis ketchers) right into my face; the band just suddenly crowd-surfed away from the stage and walked home to their camps, after which five or six concert-goers crawled onto the stage and finished off the concert with a final song.
Anyone familiar with Red Warszawa will know that they're pretty much one the of most irreedemably terrible bands on Earth, musically speaking, but I've rarely been so thoroughly entertained. They're just awesomely hilarious. Attending their concerts will give you an insatiable thirst for beer in large quantities, though, so beware...
Kylesa - ***
Decent concert, but nothing world-shaking. I've listened to their album Static Tension quite a lot and had actually expected a more intense live experience. Their blend of metal and psychedelia is pretty original, but they didn't quite deliver in my opinion.
Mastodon - ****
These guys are awesomely good at what they do and I like their music quite a lot. Unfortunately I, for some reason, opted not to enter the pit and was awarded with fluctuating and somewhat crappy sound and a lousy crowd. Lesson learned.
I also wish they'd played some more songs from Crack the Skye.
Portishead - ******
Brilliant, incredibly intense show. Everything was just as spot on as on their records. Best concert of the festival, hands down.
Anna Calvi - ***
Anna has a very original sound, is a great singer and a breath-takingly skilled guitarist and is very, very sexy to boot. Still, her song-writing isn't up to par, in my opinion.
Juju - ****
What a party! Just plain enjoyable, danceable music, despite mixing genres as different as funk-rock, jazz and african folk music.
The Tallest Man On Earth - ****
He has a great voice and an impressively convincing, yet laid-back approach to performing that won everyone over. I really enjoyed his stripped-down arrangements, so when the bassist and drummer was brought, I felt that most of magic was taken away from the bareness of his music, which is just a shame. I'll definitely be checking out his music again at some point.
TV on the Radio - *****
They managed to move from experimental indie to psychedelic funk to garage punk in one concert without making it seem strange or too thought out. By the end most of the crowd were dancing and jumping and going nuts - very impressive for an indie band that I doubt most of the audience had heard before (I had only superficially checked out a few songs myself). Their songs seemed well thought-out, and the vocalist especially really gave it his all. Add this to the list of bands I'll have to check out some more.
Dark Dark Dark - *****
A chamber folk group from Minnesota. I doubt anyone in the audience had heard of them before, but by the end everyone was convinced. They're music is beautiful, unassuming, well-composed, personal and creatively composed of a fairly unusual mix of genres (indie folk, americana and classical chamber music comes to mind). I gladly bought their album after the concert.
Chris Cunningham - *****
This was, physically and mentally, a thoroughly unpleasant experience. Merciless, droning bass notes passed through my body, almost inducing nausea at times, while disturbing images of distorted human bodies were projected onto the stage. At times I wanted to run away screaming, but I couldn't - it was too artistically complete and uncompromising. When the concert was over I had a strange feeling in my stomach (much like how I felt after seeing Lars von Trier's Antichrist). I'm glad I went, because I doubt I'll experience anything quite like this in a long time.
Spids Nøgenhat - ****
Impressively well-played, authentic psychedelic rock. Perhaps just a bit too retrospective - this band is basically one huge cliché, but they do what they do with all of their hearts and soul and with great musicality.
Taurus Riley and the Black Soil Band - *****
Wonderfully unpretentious and joy-spreading reggae, with some soul and 80's pop sounds thrown in for good measure. Never have I enjoyed such an 80's like, major-scale based saxophone solo before this concert.
Battles - *****
This is just an incredibly original band. I really enjoyed their first record, so I was sort of hoping to hear some of their older songs, but they seem bent on almost solely playing songs from their new album - which really is quite understable given the depature of singer/guitarist/keyboardist Tyondai. Their new material is really, really good, though, albeit slightly different from the Mirrored sound. Live they came off as surprisingly danceable, despite the frequent use of odd time signatures, and they still sound as original and fresh as when Mirrored came out. To me this was a perfect way to end the festival.
As a side note: Ian Williams (guitarist/keyboardist/sample guy) is the coolest man alive. He plays guitar with one hand, keyboards with the other and pedals with his feet while dancing and not ever missing a beat? Jesus...

I missed some concerts, but I saw these(the bands marked with a star means I missed a few songs, two stars means I saw the entire concert):
Reptile & Retards, 2/6**
My friend wanted to see them, so I went with him. I just don't like electro rock
Who Knew, 3/6*
Again...not my kind of music, but the lead singer was awesome
Hammonds, Harrington & Destroy, 3/6**
As above
Selvhenter, 4/6
Amazing soundscapes. Only saw three songs, would have liked to see the entire concert
Narasirato - 5/6*
Really nice and happy music from Solomon Islands. They were clearly amazed and happy for the crowd, who sent all their love in return
Terror - 4/6*
A great hardcore show, but their music is very repetitive.
Iron Maiden - 4/6*
This years biggest disappointment. I really like Final Frontier and A Matter of Life and Death, but a lot of the songs doesn't work live. They're to long.
Electric Wizards - 4/6
Really nice replacement band. Very nice to wake up to.
Wang Li - 5/6 or 1/6...
Wang Li was awesome. One humble man on his Jew's harp...but goddammit, the crowd was lame. Why start clapping, yelling rock 'n' roll and things like that, when you're supposed to shut the fuck up and enjoy the music? First time ever I have had a concert ruined by the crowd.
Parkway Drive - 3/6
Nice energy, but the style is to "young"
Eyehategod - 4.5/6*
Heavy as shit. You could really feel the music in your balls!
Charles Bradley - 6/6**
By all means the best concert at Roskilde 2011. Love, humility, happiness and a freaking fantastic vocal from the screaming eagle of soul, Charles Bradley
Atmosphere - 1/6
Hadn't planned this concert, but was waiting for Mastodon...I just don't like hip hop...
Mastodon - 6/6**
I was afraid the Orange was to big, but it wasn't. And they absolutely kicked ass!
Portishead - 5/6**
The biggest surprise. I only knew a few songs beforehand, and in the beginning I didn't like it. But we got a better spot, they cranked the volume, and all of a sudden it was one the greatest concert at Roskilde 2011
Magnetic Man - 3/6
The only thing these stars is given for, is for the party. The music was crap, but Arena was bouncing with happy, dancing people and the energy on stage was great.
TV On The Radio - 2/6
Big disappointment.
Chris Cunningham - 5/6*
This man is sick! I was in the pit, and I could feel the bass vibrate in my legs...unfortunately I didn't see the entire show, cause I had to go over to Autopsy...but Chris Cunningham was so amazing, although a bit repetitive also.
Autopsy - 1/6
They sucked...I like the music on CD, but they sucked live...
Deadmau5 - 1/6
...umpti umpti umpti
Spids Nøgenhat - 6/6*
Psychedelic rock when it's best. One of the absolut best concerts at Roskilde.
What I missed: Congotronics, Jagwa Music, Ghost, Kylesa, Zun Zun Egui, Anna Calvi, Swans and I went home sunday, so I also missed Afrocubism, Bad Religion and Graveyard

Rating the three concerts I went to... 2 were great, 1 not so good:
** M.I.A.
Huge disappointment. Loved the start and the overall visuals. However, the show in general sucked humungous ass. Was really looking forward to this one, but especially Maya staying out of all the lights most of the time was a disaster. A lot of peopl, but show would probably have fitted Arena better, and would probably have given her more confidence in creating a great show. Thumbs up for the visuals tho.
****** Per Vers
The only true legendary Danish hip-hopper. Not due to his flow, which is easily seen better, but due to the massive impact this dude has on his audience. Getting everybody involved throughout the concert (which btw was the best visited 12noon concert in the history of Cosmopol). The sixth star is added for the commitment shown by creating a track solely for the purpose of celebrating finally being there as a solo act after having played at some point during the festivals over the last ten years.
***** Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All
Great show. Sound could have been better, but they lived up to the hype about pulling a crazy show. Thumbs up for letting the two wolf-dressed fans enter the stage. Can't wait to have them back in a few years with better material.

Iron Maiden: 4/6
Had pretty good spots, sound was decent, performance great and show great. Some of the new stuff didn't work as well as some of the older, but overall good show. Missed Run to the Hills and These Colours Don't Run a lot though.
Bright Eyes: 5/6
Amazing! Not quite as fantastic as when I saw them earlier this year, but still a great show. Conor Oberst is a genious, and especially Nate Walcott impressed me. Crowd was also with him. Would probably have gotten 6/6 if he had played some more classics.
Beatsteaks: 5/6
Wow, what a party! Fantastic energy and great performance. One of the biggest rock parties this year.
Kylesa: N/A
Pretty good show. Only saw 20 minutes though.
Atmosphere: N/A
Only saw two songs, seemed like a great party though.
Mastodon: 5/6
Was really impressed! The sound was crushing and the performance was a lot better than the last time I saw them too. Good setlist by the way, and Bladecatcher was a cool surprise
Magnetic Man: N/A
Didn't see much.
Portishead: 4/6
Don't know a lot of their stuff, but it was a great show nonetheless. Was really impressed with how well the music worked on Orange.
Anna Calvi: N/A
Seemed like a great show, but only saw like 20 minutes.
M.I.A.: 4/6
Pretty good. Impressive production, but because of the sound it was hard to hear what song was playing.
John Grant: 6/6
Best concert of the year for me. That man has the most amazing voice, and the songs are just as beautiful and sad.
Soilwork: N/A
Only saw 10 minutes, sadly.
Arctic Monkeys: 4/6
Good show. Saw it from the pit, but I got a little bored at the end. Besides the drummer, they also seemed to be.
The Strokes: 6/6
Second best concert this year. The setlist was amazing!
deadmau5: N/A
Really don't know how to rate this one. Was a fantastic party, and when he dropped Ghosts 'N Stuff it was one of the best moments on the festival for me.
Bad Religion: 3/6
Only saw the second half, but the sound was bad, and the band seemed a little tired.
My Chemical Romance: 5/6
Great energy, which wasn't spoiled by the lack of a big crowd, thankfully. Famous Last Words was another highlight of the festival for me, but it seemed like it was lacking an encore with SING and Bulletproof Heart.
Big Boi: 4/6
Was pretty cool. A lot of OutKast classics, but I wish he would've played General Patton fully, and not only for like 30 seconds.
Janelle Monaé: 5/6
The biggest surprise of the festival. Was a fantastic party, a fantastic voice and a great backing band.
Kings of Leon: 4/6
The same with Arctic Monkeys, seemed a little long, but when they played (the usually annoying) Use Somebody, the crowd went crazy. But what's with them not playing Red Morning Light????
A lot of great shows! See you next year!

Reptile & Retard 4/6
I had a great party, but I don't remember a lot of the music.
Fastpoholmen N/A
Just checked them out and I was pretty drunk so it wouldn't be fair to judge them. Seemed like people around me enjoyed it.
This Is Head 4/6
I had pretty high expectations for this concert. It didn't quite fulfill them put it was still really good.
Agent Fresco 6/6
One of my best experiences this year. I'm not very familiar with their music but I had a hell of a time with a couple of my friends.
Tame Impala 3/6
I was a bit let down by these guys as I had really been looking forward to their gig. The vocal was a bit too deep in the mix (even for their standard) and they didn't rock a lot about. Great music still.
Foals 5/6
A really great concert. The only thing missing was a true climax, maybe 'Cassius' could've pulled that off. The sound was good.
PJ Harvey 5/6
Marvelous concert. She really did a great job in performing the tracks from 'Let England Shake'.
Bright Eyes 3/6
Good performance by Conor Oberst and the rest of the band. I think they could have made a better setlist. I missed some more stripped down songs.
Matthew Dear - Live Band 4/6
Nice with an electronic musician using a live band. I was pleasantly surprised with the music and had a party.
Destroyer 5/6
A truly great concert. I wasn't very familiar with Dan Bejar's and the rest of the bands music, but they did a great job performing it.
Portishead 5/6
Very, very beautiful in spite of being pretty slow music. Enjoyed from the grand stand with a beer in hand and some friends made a good concert for me.
Whomadewho 4/6
Great party. I danced all around the place. Don't remember much of the music though.
Iceage 4/6
It was crazy up front, 'nuff said.
OFWGKTA 5/6
The raw energy at this show was incredibly. The music didn't get much through, though. Mike G was a much better rapper than expected.
TV On The Radio 5/6
I would've have liked if they had played some more tracks from 'Nine Types Of Light' but all their albums are great, so the setlist was still good. And they can really perform. I was a bit disappointed with the relatively small crowd. I had expected their music to be more widespread in Denmark.
Kloster 3/6
It was nice sitting and chilling to the music. I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to it, though.
James Blake N/A
I was only there for a couple of tracks. People around me looked like they enjoyed it.
The Strokes 6/6
What a show! That must be my best experience this year. The guys nailed it with that setlist.
Deadmau5 3/6
I had a party but the music was too monotonous for my liking. And Medina was there, I can't stand her.
Big Boi 4/6
It was the kind of hip-hop performance I've never seen before. Lots of energy from the to MC's. It became a little too much of the same in the end.
Battles 5/6
Boy, can these guys play! That was a great show. I would have liked to hear 'Atlas' and 'Tonto', though.
Kings of Leon 4/6
Better than what I had expected. I missed some songs from their first three albums, but I couldn't really have hoped for a set only containing material from those.

Reptile and Retard 4/6
I didn't know them, but went with a friend of mine and some of his friends and had a great time.
Kirsten & Marie 4/6
I was sitting outside the Pavilion on the grass with my friends and the weather was hot and full of sun. Great music and the two girls are just so nice and sweet.
Fastpoholmen 4/6
Well, just very likeable.
Veto 3/6
A bit boring and somewhat dissapointing. I like their first album the best and these sounded great.
Foals 3/6
An allright concert, I'd say.
PJ Harvey 6/6
I got completely dragged in and just loved her.
Portishead 4/6
Great performance, but unfortunately I was sitting pretty far back on the left side. I think that the concert would propably have been more intense up front ind the crowd, and I might have had a 5 star experience.
M.I.A. 2/6
So boring that my friends and I decided to leave before the show was over. Some other from my camp was standing in the pit and apparently had a blast, but from the middle of the crowd it wasn't much fun.
Iceage 5/6
After the M.I.A. dissapointment my friends and I decided to go to this 3 o'clock show. Didn't know their music, but had heard a bit about the band. We ended up having the best time going crazy together with the rest of the Odeon crowd. Great to experience people helping and taking such good care of each other in the mosh-pits.
The Tallest Man on Earth 5/6
A really good concert. Very charming music and performer.
James Blake 6/6
A more than fully packed Cosmopol. James Blake and his band couldn't have done a better job. Also, he seemed so gratefull to be there - and so was I.
Deadmau5 4.5/6
In my opinion the concert was too long. The songs got repetitive and I left about 15 minutes before the show ended. However, it was just a massive party and much fun a lot of the time. Had it been an hour or so, it would have been an awesome rave.
L.O.C. 3/6
My friend and I was a bit late for the queue for Kings of Leon, so just decided to see L.O.C. and then later Kings of Leon from just outside the pit. But after letting people in the pit for L.O.C. the light was still green, so we decided just to get in there and see the show. The atmosphere was great and L.O.C. seemed really happy to be playing at the stage. I'm not that much into his music though.
Kings of Leon 3/6
I don't have much to say about this. Just an okay concert, but nothing special.

Tame Impala - 2/6
Love this stuff on record, didn't work live at all. Sadly.
Cody - 5/6
Huge surprise for me musically.. danish folk that's actually good is hard for me to comprehend. Live it played out very chilled with a great atmosphere to it.
Iron Maiden - 4/6
Seen them before, and the theatrical Bruce is always a blast. Very tight but you can also feel the routine.
Parkway Drive - 3/6
Even though you'll have a hard time finding a band this clicheed live (and on record as well), it actually played out ok... mainly because the musicians believed in themselves and thus did the crowd too.
Eyehategod - 3/6
Had hoped for more but turned out average... maybe due to the set list.. can't quite put my finger on it.
Mastodon - 4/6
Well, they couldn't quite pull off an Orange show, and they would have done so much better on Arena... but this was actually quite good. Great set list and great energy.
Portishead - 6/6
Perfect in every way. The sound and bass was intense and so was the atmosphere. Hands down the best concert I saw at Roskilde this year.
Ghost - 4/6
Funny stuff even though it wants to be taken seriously. A couple of good songs and those outfits actually did make it partly scary... and partly laughable.
Dop - 2/6
Boring as hell. The songs didn't go anywhere and neither did the show.
Soilwork - 3/6
Didn't care for the music... too much emo for me... but they gave their best and at times were able to lift the crowd.
The Gaslamp Killer - 5/6
Now this was hilarious and brilliant at the same time. A DJ that looks like Borat jumping around with a huge hairdo bouncing up and down... and that 8-bit version of Ridin' Dirty was spot on. Second best concert this year for me.
Arctic Monkeys - 4/6
Don't care for the band, but they pulled it off live. Nice sound and a good set proving that they could somewhat pull off Orange.
Chris Cunningham - 4/6
Sadly came a bit too late for this show, but the show was weird and incredible.
Deadmau5 - 3/6
Not as bad as people say... didn't care for the music (at all), but the bass was really pumping and the crowd loved it, so to me it was hard to hate... but also hard to love.
Bad Religion - 3/6
Very dissapointed even though it wasn't half bad. Some good jokes lifted the boring show a bit.
Pulled Apart By Horses - 5/6
Great stuff and great energy. Watching the lead singer puke while still playing on on his guitar was the high light of a concert filled with high lights... you guys missed out on this one. Third best concert this year for me.
Afrocubism - 4/6
The corwd had made several dance pits and the band played an uplifting show they no doubtedly believed a lot in. Pure love this stuff.
My Chemical Romance - 4/6
There's something about this band I love even though I should hate it. Live they always deliver, and even though my third time with them this time around was MCR at their worst, it was still filled with energy and charisma.

Black Milk 3/6
Decent to good hip-hop.
Frente Cumbiero 5/6
Really really great modern cumbia with good hooks. Quite a suprise.
PJ Harvey 6/6
Magic from the first moment to the last. Just perfect.
Nicolas Jaar 5,5/6
The way he made songs that are great on his debutalbum even better live was fantastic.
Charles Bradley 5,5/6
If you like old soul music it's a relevation to see someone like Bradley. What a voice!
Seun Kuti 5/6
Sitting outside the tent listening to this great groove was very enjoyable.
Destroyer 3/6
I didn't really had the mood for popmusic so it didn't do anything for me.
Kurt Vile 4,5/6Even if it was good it was a litte disappointing.
Shangaan Electro 5/6
Crazy electo/worldmusic from South Africa that sure bring up the party.
Portishead
Just saw the two last song. But they were beautiful and should be mentioned.
John Grant 5/6
He was better the last time I saw him but still one of the best vocalists of today.
The Gaslamp Killer 3,5/6
Interesting dj who did get some crazy mixes to work quite well.
Arctic Monkeys 4,5/6
Alex Turner has something unique and he showed some times at orange stage.
Kemialliset Ystävät 5/6
Hiding from the rain I heard these finish band soundcheck and got stuck til the show. Nearly perfect dronemusic.
Bad Religion 4,5/6
Old heroes who are tired but still good. Always seem to have a bad sound nowadays. But Recipe for hate was one festival highlight.
Curren$y 4/6
Great rapper who showed some serious skills. A kind of abrupt ending of the show was boring though.
Gold Panda 3/6
My ears and the heat at Gloria didn't do Gold Panda justice. But after a good start it kind of got boring.
Justin Townes Earle 5/6
A great way to finish of the festival for me. Acoustic and with great wit and good lyrics Justin showed that he is far better than his dad at the moment.

My top five:
Iron Maiden 6/6
This was just awesome! I'm a huge fan so seeing them on Orange was really a dream come true!
Kaizers Orchestra 5-6/6
Great energy! Love the band so seeing them on Orange was also a dream come true!
Mastodon 5/6
These guys are just so fucking good at what they do, and what they do is awesome! As mentioned earlier by someone else, I was afraid aswell that Orange was too big for them, but it turned out to be a really great concert! They should of played a bit more from Crack The Skye tho.
Arctic Monkeys 5/6
Great fun! They played really great, and I didn't know them that well from before, so seeing them live was a very positive experience!
Timbuktu 5/6
Great party! Got so wasted and had a blast the entire show! Great way to end the festival.
Other bands:
Deadmau5 4/6
Good party, the music became a bit meh after a while tho.
Magnetic Man 4/6
Good shitfaced so ended up having loads of fun
Kylesa 3/6
Ok musically, but a bit boring live and their sound was a bit too muddy.
Tame Impala 3/6
Became a bit boring after a while
Chase and Status 3/6
Not my type of music, but I'll give it 3 for the party, although I only saw 15 minutes or so.
Surfer Blood 4-5/6
Great music, and a relaxing start of the day for me.
Kings of Leon 4/6
Only saw the last 3 songs, but the last two were the songs I came to hear so was good for me. Great atmosphere there too.
Battles 5/6
Only saw half the concert, but was great! The drummer was wild.

Tame Impala - 3/6
I liked their instrumental parts, but their singer was way off.
Foals - 1/6
I don't remember anything from this concert. So it must have been kinda bad, i believe.
PJ Harvey - 5/6
Since I'm a great PJ-fan, it was a big experience to see her for the first time. The concert was great, but I think it was too short.
The Raveonettes - 1/6
I don't think it was their fault that the concert went so bad. But they were placed on a way too large stage, there were technical problems and their music just doesn't fit in daylight.
Seun & Femi Kuti - 4/6
Very entertaining, but probably too long.
Swans - 6/6
The whole concert was so fucked up that I couldn't do anything but smile during the whole thing.
Killing Joke - 2/6
The leadsinger was seriously killing me.
Ililta Band - 4/6
Entertaining.
TV on the Radio - 3/6
The beginning was horrible, but the ending was terrific.
Arctic Monkeys - 2/6
They have written some fairly great songs, but their show was kinda lousy and anemic.
Congotronics vs. Rockers - 2/6
The sound was very bad (which was a repetitive problem during several concerts on Odeon).
Ivo Papasov & His Wedding Band - 5/6
The only reason I won't rate this concert six is because I really wanted to dance, but the time signatures and tempo was fucking with my brain.
Spids Nøgenhat - 4/6
The music was great, but the whole drug-theme seemed kinda assumed.
The Walkmen - 1/6
The band had no energy. Combined with the horrible sound, the result wasn't very good.
Screaming Females - 2/6
I don't know why I even saw them, since I can't stand that kind of music.
Janelle Monáe - 6/6
My newspaper told me that this concert was a must. Maybe I should just let my newspaper guide my whole festival next year.
Kings of Leon - 3/6
They were better than I thought they would be - although that doesn't say that much.
Average score: 3,17

Bottled In England (5/6)
Slow start but worth the peak in the middle, big party aswell. I think they might be around for a while.
Selvhenter (1/6)
Selvhenter indeed Roskilde.
Tame Impala (2/6)
Got boring quickly.
1349 (4/6)
Only saw the ending but great sound. Norwegians know how to rock!
Frente Cumbiero (5/6)
All of a sudden: A conga-line, then two.
Iron Maiden (5/6)
Just a bunch of old dudes rocking out.
Chase And Status (6/6)
Insane from the beginning to the end. The wall of death at the end was one of my favorite moments on Roskilde. The light show was great, and you could see the sweat drippping from the roof. When somebody stops a concert because the crowd is going wild it means that someone is having a party and what a party it was.
Bright Eyes (4/6)
He's on a low with his new album but he played Arc of Time and that was beautiful.
Charles Bradley (5/6)
Love everywhere. His voice gave me goosebumps.
Portishead (5/6)
I was actually happy that they played orange because as I could lay on the ground and listen to the music. Very soothing.
M.I.A (3/6)
Thumbs up for the light show.
WOLF GANG! WOLF GANG! WOLF GANG! WOLF GANG! (5/6)
Calle 13 (5/6)
Some dude talking about life and love and peace and unity and then you dance.
Deadmau5 (6/6)
I don't think I have ever raved this hard in my entire life. I left right before Medina went on, couldn't be more perfect.
Walls (5/6)
I Would have loved to be tripping to it. Very intense music.
Curren$y (3/6)
All about dat weed.
Big Boi (5/6)
He's a cool guy.
Gold Panda (4/6)
Very quirky.
Kings Of Leon (4/6)
I never really loved them but it was a good mood and very relaxing concert.
Timbuktu (5/6)
Fuck yeah Timbuktu! Playing a swedish version of a Kim Larsen song is <3 left before Prince Fatty or Hoffmaestro.

Arctic Monkeys 5/6
Great concert, their songs from Humbug worked better live than on record. Dark and heavy. The new single "Don't Sit Down Cause I've Moved The Chair" is simply brilliant and some parts of it reminds me of Soundgardens Badmotorfinger album.
Also they have a plethora of great songs all through their career.
They seemed to have matured a lot as a band, much better than last time on Orange.
Mastodon 4/6
Not sure what I think. They sound excellent and can really play. But some of the songs simple lack focus. It's not a contest in playing 10 000 different parts in one song for me. They have some really excellent riffs and parts in every song; just wished they would do it a bit more simple. I like their new album a lot more than the others.
Anyways: They weren't big enough (yet, perhaps) to play the Orange. Most of us knew that already before the show. There were hardly any people behind the pit.
Iron Maiden 4/6
This would probably have been a 5/6 if they had played 3-4 less new songs and added Run To The Hills and a few more classics. Totally professional band- just what is needed on the Orange. A band that delivers no matter what!
Kings Of Leon
I have no idea- bailed out early as I saw chaos getting home after the show. Besides my friends had already left. Wished I'd seen them though.
Portishead 4/6
Would easily have been a 5 or 6 star concert at Arena. I found my self lulled to sleep almost. They even toned down some of the songs- not a good idea playing already introvert music on the arena. Sound was great, visuals nice but shouldn't have been a late night Orange concert in my opinion. Where was the party?
The Strokes 6/6
OMFG! The setlist, the sound, Julian "skal du ha flere kartofler, Julian" Casablanca- everything was just perfect! Didn't have the highest of hopes as their last show on Orange was outright boring, but this was amazing!
Saturday was the only day this year where it felt like normal at Orange. Kaizers (review later), Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes made this a great rock n' roll night for everyone interested in music.
Bad Religion 3/6
Boring! But I added to my already nice tan.... The sun was absolutely "cooking"
Bright Eyes 4/6
In parts great, in other parts a bit uninteresting. He has a great voice and some really good songs, still young and might even turn out to have a Neil Young like career.
One of the few classic rock/americana shows at Roskilde- and the crowd made sure they were there even at an early time (2 pm.) at the Arena and they showed their appreciation. Please Rikke, realize that this is the type of music that a lot of people still crave for at Roskilde!
Deadmau5
Didn't have the stamina to stay and see him. But from my camp his setlist sounded very boring to be honest. Very repetitive beats and sounds, which is a disappointment as I know he has more varied stuff up his sleeve. I'm sure the visuals where great.
My Chemical Romance 4/6
Not really a big fan of their music, but we stayed to see them played (before getting on a bus home) and I must say that their performance impressed me!
Raveonettes 2/6
ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Bring back Psyched Up Janis, Sune!
TV on the Radio 4/6
Took a while for them to get going, but after that it was great.
Veto 3/6
I like some of their music and their sound. I just don't think this is a type of band to get the party going as an opening act for the festival. To much introvert feel music IMO.
Rock n' roll is what people is expecting as for the first act. We all know it, except for Rikke "rock is for 40-50 year old men" Øxner.
And it doesn't have to be a Danish band. It's an ridiculous tradition. If there isn't any around to serve it's purpose in Denmark then get some other band. Veto should have played some other time, possibly at Orange, but not as the first band.
Eyehategod 3/6
They have some nice songs, but most of them are to much noise for my liking. I hate it when a sweet Black Sabbath like riff is ruined by unnecessary growling etc. Not very objective I know..
Ghost
No idea, except that I noticed that RF called this a triumph while all the reports in the media blasted this concert. What about you guys who were there, what did you think?
Kylesa 3/6
Some cool riffs and heavy sound doesn't make up for the tedious vocals. Get a singer!
Daniel Nordgren 5/6
Van Morrison, The Black Keys, Tom Waits and just about every real blues band wrapped up in one. Loved this show! Just him with his guitars and drums, a bass player and the occasional keyboard. Excellent!
Tarrus Riley 5/6
Reggae- what more can I say? I love it, and so do the crowd. He really got us going. More reggae next year please!! Total festival music- people just show up and enjoy even if they don't know the songs
Tame Impala 2/6
Hyped beyond reason by RF, the festival press and all but the reality is that just because your are from New Zealand and play some weird stuff (at times) doesn't mean you are the next big thing. They really are not! There are a lot of bands who does the same thing, and does it a lot better!
"Det er lyden af smilende delfiner, der svømmer gennem det store lyseblå, mens de vatbløde vokaler, jazzede trommer og det tilbagelænede guitarspil driver over lydbilledet som lune krusbølger i lagunekanten."
Honningbarna 5/6
Kenneth Something, from Soundvenue, managed to give this show 2 stars. Totally ridiculous, reading his reasoning for why only 2 you just have to
These kids can go on to be a big Scandinavian rock band. Very impressed, even if it is early days.

Cant really recall / didnt see enough of some concerts to rate, but I`ll do some of them:
Terror - 3/6
Thought there were too many clichès, but they got the crowd going, so was ok
Iron Maiden - 4/6
Seen them before, and the was almost identical to the last time. But musically it was great, and they do make a good show!
Bright Eyes - 4/6
Didnt see too much, but thought it was a really nice concert
Beatsteaks - 3/6
Not really a big fan of the music, but it was kind of fun to watch
Mastodon 4/6
Musically they did great! Would have liked a night time show, or Arena though. They couldnt quite pull off Orange in daylight
Magnetic Man 5/6
Fantastic! Randomly walked by and saw that the pits were open, so got a beer and walked in. One of the biggest parties this year for me! Constant moshpits and just loads of life
Kaizers Orchestra 5/6
Sure, it was hugely predictable, but in my drunken/summery state i couldnt help but love it!!
Arctic Monkeys 5/6
Loved their music, wasnt too much of a show, but thats not really their style. Not is was really cool overall
The Strokes - 6/6
Absolutely fantastic! Loved every bit of it! Best show my miles for me this year! Couldnt stop moving afterwards in the queue for Deadmau5!
Deadmau5 - 5/6
A tad repetetive, but I had a blast! Huge party in the pits!
Afrocubism - 2/6
Not my cup of tea at all. But atleast i had a nice time when i went of the the tent and fell asleap in the sun outside listening to their music
Big Boi - 1/6
Thought it was awful.
Kings of Leon - 3/6
They didnt really close Orange in style. Some songs were fun to hear, and i was pretty drunk, so after a while i started to enjoy it a bit

My top 5 concerts:
Iron Maiden 5/6
Such an amazing concert, so much joy, so much energy from the crowd and the band. It was my first time seeing them and I loved it. And the guitar solos... Just wow!
Kurt Vile 5/6
Very special atmosphere. You could really tell that people were listening. Love his songs.
L.O.C. 5/6
It was easy to tell that he enjoyed being there. I'm usually not that into rap music but he really knows how to make people party and the melancholic songs had a quality of their own which I really liked.
The Tallest Man on Earth 4,5/6
His voice is amazing and his guitar playing always fits the mood of the songs really well. Many people compare him to Bob Dylan but his voice sounds very different live. The band that was brought in during the concert was allright and added a bit of power to "The Dreamer" but didn't do much for the other songs.
The Strokes 5/6
Was a bit drunk during this concert, but have always loved how they work together as a band, and heard all of my favourite songs. The crowd seemed really into it.
Notable mentions: Arctic Monkeys (I'm a big fan and it was my first time seeing them. Therefore I think I'm a little too biased to review it), Portishead (Got me into a very special mood, amazing), Zun Zun Egui (weird, but somehow nice...), and Big Boi (Nostalgic Outkast-party!)
Worst concerts: M.I.A. (went quickly, I really dislike her voice), Bottled in England (had expected more from their live drummer), and Veto (not good, not bad, just meh...)

Iron Maiden 5/6
My ninth Maiden show, great as always!
Kuti-brothers 5/6
Great party at the correct stage at a perfect time of day Stayed for both parts of the show, guess Seun was the best of the two in my opinion.
Portishead 3/6
The Orange stage was just wrong. Was lucky to see them in 98 at Green, which fit their music so much better.
Kaizers Orchestra 5/6
My first show with them. Impressive energy, they really got the crowd going! Fun in the sun
Arctic Monkeys 4/6
Some great highlights, but some of the songs where just to boring for my taste.
Ivo Papasov and his wedding band 6/6
What a great party! Just had to jump around for the full concert.
Deadmau5 2/6
Saw the last hour or so. Way to monotone for my taste. Expected more.
Bad Religion 4/6
Great to hear the songs again, but Greg Graffin must have really gotten up on the wrong foot. His attitude almost ruined the show for me. The girl next to me actually left the show because she couldnt bare listening to him inbetween songs any more.

Veto 3/6
Most of Veto's music is very introvert, so I was already doubting about how great they would be to open on the Orange Stage. To be honest, I think they would have been much better at Arena in the evening. Arena would have been a much better stage for their kind of music. Nevertheless, I think Veto gave a good and solid concert, which topped with tracks such as "Digits" and "You Are A Knife". If Veto played some songs with a bit more "rock"-feel, I would've given them 4 stars.
Oh Land 2/6
I was looking very much forward to hearing Oh Land play live, as I have listened a bit to her albums and really liked some of her more "quiet" music. However, she just never caught me when playing on Cosmopol.
Iron Maiden 5/6
Really solid performance. Maiden showed that routine is not always a bad thing. I especially enjoyed Bruce's "SCREAM FOR ME, ROSKILDE!".
Magnetic Man ft. Katy B 1/6
Magnetic Man, Arctic Monkeys and Janelle Monáe were the concerts I was looking most forward to seeing. Me and some guys from the camp went to see the famous trio at the Arena and hoped for an awesome show. Instead we ended up with one hour of fist-pumping house music. We left after one hour, seriously disappointed. Maybe I should have stayed around. Where was the dubstep? You are not supposed to fist pump to dubstep Also, the 10.000 drunk dudes pushing and some even kicking us didn't exactly help us enjoy the concert more.
Kaizers Orchestra 4/6
Never heard these guys before I went to see them. Great energy and awesome percussion with oil barrels.
Arctic Monkeys 5/6
Great setlist! I really went mental to this concert.. If only they would've played some more of their old stuff that would've been great! And maybe a bit more crowd interaction..
Janelle Monáe 10/6
HOLY SH*T! I have never been to such an amazing concert before! Amazing energy from the stage, Janelle dancing around in her tuxedo, her orchestra going crazy and lots of funky rhytms with some quiet soul in between. She even gave someone from the crowd a painting because it was her birthday! I wish she would come back to Denmark and play again soon.. what an amazing artist.
Kings of Leon 4/6
A good way to end Roskilde Festival. Sadly you could hear that Roskilde was the last gig on their tour..

This year was great! Saw some of my best Roskilde concerts ever this year.
Hammonds, Harrington & Destroy 3/6
Great music and the drummer especially suprised me, but they didn't have much of a crowd and it seemed like it affected the band a bit..
Essence 5/6
Awesome atmosphere, and they could really play their instruments. Was anxious to see if the bassist could pull off Blood Culture and of course he could! Raining Blood just made Pavilion Junior explode. Reminded me of Thee Attacks' awesome concert last year
Veto 4/6
Love their music and they were a worthy opener. But I didn't really feel their joy of playing Orange Stage, as I felt their joy of playing Store Vega in April. It seemed as if they were too focused to enjoy the concert. Heard it was because of some techical issues though.
Iron Maiden 5/6
Awesome awesome awesome!! Bruce Dickinson owned the crowd from the very beginning, and Janick Gers was just crazy. My dissapointment of not hearing Bruce singing the parts in Satellite 15 is the only reason why the don't get a 6/6
Chase & Status seemed like they pulled off a great show, but because of Maidens two-hour set a didn't saw enough to rate.
Beatsteaks 6/6!!!
Best concert I have ever been to at Roskilde! Got to lift the singer when he did his "jesus thing" and caught a bottle from the guitarist. Everything was perfect at that concert, and especially their singer put on a great show.
The Raveonettes 4/6
Was still ecstatic about the beatsteaks concert, but they seemed alright. Liked the rough sound that came from the speakers.
Kylesa I didn't see enough of to rate.
Mastodon 5/6
Even though the didn't quite fill orange, they still put on a great show. Amazing sound!
Portishead 5/6
Only knew Roads and Glory Box when I saw them, but during the concert a fell in love with Beth Gibbons. She gave me goose bumps the whole 75 minutes!
Ghost 1/6
What a shitty concert. Actually liked their music before I saw them live.. But it was just so boring! This years major dissapointment! Would rather go to church..
M.I.A. - after I left Ghost a went to see her, but couldn't stand it after 10 minutes so called it a day.
OFWGKTA 6/6
WOLF GANG WOLF GANG! What a way to create a party from a wheelchair!
Soilwork 5/6
Played all my favorites and Speed really made sure that we enjoyed the concert.
TV On The Radio 5/6
I'm a huge fan of their music so it was a dream come true seeing them on stage!
Arctic Monkeys 4/6
Great music and all, but they were just too.. mellow. Coolness? nah, seemed more like a tired band, except for Matt Helders of course
The Strokes 6/6
If it weren't for Beatsteaks this would have been the best Roskilde concert ever! Front row, great music and a really energetic Julian. And the danish part, "nej nej nej Julian, det må du ikke. Spis din kartoffelmos"
My Chemical Romance 4/6
I'm a huge Three Cheers and Black Parade fan, so was kinda dissapointed that the almost only played the new stuff. But they put on a great show
L.O.C 5/6
You could just feel his joy of playing this stage, not that he hided it, in any way. 6/6 if it wasn't for U$0. I really don't like that rapper..
Too bad I only saw the very last part of Janelle Monae's show. Seemed like magic happened in that tent..
Kings Of Leon 5/6
They seemed sincerely happy to play this concert, and if you knew the songs like I did, it was a great concert. Pyro was an absolute highlight and I'm very happy about them playing that song. The time just flew by quickly at that concert.
LOVED THIS YEAR'S ROSKILDE!!!

1349 - 4/6 (in the pits)
Really good opener for Arena. Not really Black metal but more a crosover Black and Death which is fitting considering their name. Don't remember the concert that clearly though as I was really drunk. Just remember it was great.
Iron Maiden - 5/6 (in the pits)
Some uncharacteristic problems with the timing and to get really nerdy The Bruce's voice didn't seem as all-powering with oceans of headroom as it usually is live.
Oh, and Bruce, get the facts straight. Last time you were on that stage you didn't crawl on top of it either. That was in 2000. Last time you were there was in 2003.
La Makina Del Karibe - 6/6 (in the front)
Easily and by a wide margin the best concert of this years Roskilde. Raw, unrefined, superb energy from a band that went above and beyond their own expectations and ability. Magic.
Seun Kuti - 4/6 (outside the tent)
Maybe it was just me coming straight from the La Makina Del Karibe concert that biased me but I felt a slight lack of energy and the refinement I expected. Didn't see Femi Kuti as I've seen him before and was really hungry.
Portishead - 5/6 (in the pits)
It was everything I expected. Relly not much more to say.
M.I.A. - 2/6 (in the back)
Boring. Boring. Boring. The points are basically only given for the great lightshow.
Kaizers Orchestra - 4/6 (in the middle)
Basically like when I last saw them in 2002 at Gul scene just without the utter chaos on and off the stage.
Congotronics vs. Rockers - (5)6/6 (in the back)
Despite me being really annoyed they placed this at the same time as Calle 13 so I missed those. It was a fantastic concert. Second best of the year. Only maybe subtracting a point for the Odeon sound system which didn't seem up to the very tricky task of separating 19 different musicians playing at the same time.
Autopsy - 1/6 (front row)
A growling drummer does not work live. Very disappointed by this show maybe biased by me being really hungry at this point but going outside the tent and having a bite to eat while listening didn't help.
Afrocubism - 4/6 (in the back)
Being stonecold sober and very tired made me almost fall asleep during this concert but apart from some sound problems in the beginning was everything I expected. Ended in true crescendo that had everyone dancing or at least for my part, tapping their feet.
Screaming Females and Graveyard - 3/6 and 4/6 (working at Gate 10)
Both concerts are very biased by me being distracted and too far away to not fully appreciate it. Would have loved to see Graveyard much much closer though.
King of Leon - 3/6 (in the back)
Meh. Really really not a good closer for Orange, and as usual on Sundays much too crowded in the festival area.
Average rating = 3.92/6, which is pretty much exactly how I rate this years line up in general with 4/6.

Chase & Status (4/6)
Nice party with good music. But a bit too hot and it was disturbing with the intermission.
I also felt i bit like they just made another concert and didn't care a lot about us as audience.
Chris Cunningham (5/6)
It was just one big mindfuck. And i love mindfucks. The reason he dont get 6 is because it felt like he just pushed a play button. But then again i don't know what else he could do.
De Høje Hæle (5/6)
They just play the punk music and know how to get people to go dancing to it. After the show the word in my head was masspsychosis. But maybe i felt that way because i was drunk.
Electric Wizard (4/6)
It was very stoned and i loved that. The concert just didn't evolved. But then i got a joint from a guy and the music became special to me one more time.
Iron Maiden (4/6)
I only saw the first half and it was very nice but i missed some old classics. But they played very well and they just know how to rock.
Shangaan Electro (6/6)
Seriously i didn't missed anything. That dance. That music. This was the first time i saw so many happy people at cosmopol it turned into something bigger than a concert. Like a combination of cultures which shall last forever. Almost 20 of my friends was there and i got friends that likes music from L.O.C to Kurt Vile to Mastodon. And all of them loved it.
