Quick guide for the search
X

  • Wildcard-Search
With the help of a so-called wildcard you can look for several search words, which have the same word beginning. If you search e.g. for "Typo*", the search will find everything that begins with "Typo" : Typo3, Typoscript, Typocode, Typo3user... etc.
  • Negative search
If you do not want to find certain expressions in your search result, you can cause this with placing a hyphen in front. Terms containing this phrase are excluded from the search result.
  • Search for user
It is possible to limit the search result on answers of certain users. In addition to the retrieval query attach still another "user:username" and find the results, which were written by this certain user. If the username could not be found this will be ignored.

Changes I've noticed so far:

No karma count.
You cant see who/how many's online.
You cant have a signature (?)
Neither a text below your pic.
Thye've changed the icons and made them far more anoying.

Have you noticed anything? I think it seems a bit cheap.

I dont see why they dont just use their time for announcing more great bands instead of making completely unnecissary new forums icon_confused.gif

There's only room for 10 post pr page.
And I just found out you cant modify your posts. Yet anyway, I do hope they'll have a look at that.

Exactly - It seems rushed and completely unnecessary.

Im getting seriously sick of being redirected after each post.

Ah yes, the redirection thing is annoying - I'm sure, though, that it's just a matter of time before they fix that one.

Also, if RF forum webmasters are reading this: I'm requesting a link on the front forum page that will lead me to "new threads/post since your last visit"... I miss that one!

And signatures too!

And also, more patience from forum users... Where did all the positive thoughts go? Did you leave them in 2008?

EDIT: Argh, and PLEASE fix the broken link when you click the icons that's supposed to take you to the latest (new) post in a thread... it redirects me to the frontpage of roskildefestival.dk .

Ah, hopefully I did'nt seem to negative. Just thought I would post the things that have changed/dissapered - hoping that it would be taken care of. And as someone else posted, when the majority of us did'nt see the need for a new forum, its a bit of a shame with the flaws I metioned. But surely it will get better.

I did say that it'd be like this when the new forum was first announced. SMF is packed with great features and it's a mistake to ditch it. I can understand the wish for everything to be integrated, however I really don't think people care here. It doesn't even appear to have a search at the moment. The majority of the features you mentioned most probably won't be coming back, they were built into the old system. I'm guessing that it does have features like 'Who is online', as most systems do. Please turn it on.

EDIT: And yes, you've gotta stop it from re-directing to the frontpage.

A working search and "new posts since your last visit" are essential.
I also noticed that large lines of text are not shown properly (in FireFox 2 on Windows).

Definitely, especially the search.

Also, does this system have a cookie feature for keeping people logged in? I'm not making room in my life for that stupid login process everytime I want to post.

What's up with the redirecting?

This is far too rushed and amateurish. If they don't fix these problems as soon as possible, I have to find another board, because I can't stand the redirecting to be honest.

Can't understand why they were in such a hurry!

I highly doubt that. As I said before, I do understand the logic behind it. Having one overall profile for the website features and the forum does have huge advantages. The forum also looks much better integrated into the website's layout, rather than just having it in a frame.

What really bothers me is that you can do all that with SMF (the old system). The old SMF forum didn't need to be in a frame, it's really, really easy to make a template identical to the website for that. Plus you could use people's forum accounts from the old forum as their accounts for the website too. It's really, really easy. It's by far the best forum system I've ever come accross, I've used it on my websites from day one. There are even content management systems that allow easy integration with SMF. It can do anything you want it to, plus it's full of features that this doesn't appear to have.

All this really and truly sucks. Don't understand why they had to make this change.

That being said, I'm sure all the bugs will be fixed soon, and we'll get the old features back up as well. Or at least I hope so.

this world... whatever is new to people sucks for them....

Be patient... probably in a couple of days errors will be fixed, features will be added and everybody will be happy with it again....

I can't get the RSS feed to work.

I get the following message: "Internet Explorer does not support feeds with DTDs"

Does anybody know what that is all about?
