Roskilde Festival launches computer game competition
Roskilde Festival invites everyone interested to enter the competition of designing a computer game interpreting Roskilde festival.

For the first time, Roskilde Festival will have its own official computer game. The game will be designed in an open competition where the best contributions are presented on Roskilde Festival’s website. The winning contribution will be presented at this year’s festival to a big audience.

The contestants will more or less be given free reins when interpreting Roskilde Festival.

”The only guideline we’re giving the contestants is that the game has to be an interpretation of Roskilde Festival 2011’s graphic expression. With this in mind there is no limit to the creative expression. Points are especially given for original ideas and interpretations. And of course the game must also be fun, playable and esthetically appealing,” states Christina Bilde, Roskilde Festival’s spokeswoman.

The competition is arranged in a collaboration with The Danish Game Council who promotes the artistic quality and inventiveness found in both big, commercial productions as well as in small experimental independent computer games. Roskilde Festival provides the framework for the competition at the gaming area Game City at Roskilde Festival 2011.

”This collaboration with Roskilde Festival is a unique opportunity to discover fresh talent in computer game design, where creativity is given free reins. It is as well important to emphasize how computer games have a central dual role as entertainment and as a communication and educational tool and that it should be judged on equal terms as other types of media,“ states Jesper Nielsen, board member of The Danish Gaming Council.

When registering for the competition, the contenders will receive Roskilde Festival 2011’s graphic expression along with further detailed information on format and design of the game.

Deadline for submitting is 1 June 2011.
