Art is to be enjoyed in the moment

As a collective work of art, colourful art posters decorate all walls at V1´s stand at Cosmopol. Like a colourful patchwork quilt roaring with expressions and leaving a jumble of impressions.

V1 Gallery has invited 21 artists from both home and abroad to contribute with posters on the theme: ”From thought to action”. The assignment has been approached very differently by the artists, who, among others, count Huskmitnavn (Remembermyname), Tal R (Speak Ing) and John Kørner.

The 21 different posters are printed in 18,000 copies, and handed out to the audience for free – until stocks run out. For these are coveted goods, put up for grabs. Prior to the festival Jesper Elg was contacted by art collectors and people interested in art who wanted to pay for the posters, but they are for the festival guests only.

Jesper Elg and Mikkel Grønnebæk from V1 Gallery were asked if they would like to participate in an art project at the Roskilde Festival. The Gallery, which has a preference for progressive art and art in urban spaces, joined the project and contributes to making the surroundings more colourful at Cosmopol. ”We didn’t want to imitate the gallery in Copenhagen and have works of art in glass frames, but focus on the good festival conditions instead”, Jesper Elg comments to the layout of the open outdoor gallery.

You can have your say in the work of art as well. The audience is invited to go berserk with artistic rage and make their own art posters. There will regularly be artists present to inspire and guide, and each day the best contributions are selected and hung on top of, or next to the works of the established artist. Together, the contributions from artists and audience members form a constantly evolving, organic work of art – to be enjoyed in the moment.

Any audience members with dreams of becoming an artist are encouraged to move from thought to action and jump to V1 at Cosmopol and express themselves.
