Dawn of Demise - While we are here

Roskilde Festival is too big and its values too soft for Bjørn Jensen from the death metal band Dawn of Demise. However, some things are worth coming to the festival for, and he repays by revealing the title of the band’s upcoming album.

Bjørn Jensen from Dawn of Demise probably would not have come to the festival, if he was not playing himself. The program is not brutal enough and the festival is too big.

“The good thing about small-sized festivals is that you can experience your idols at close hand. For instance, if you want to see Morbid Angel, you can get a spot right in front of the stage even if you get there five minutes before it starts”, he says and continues:

“Roskilde Festival is almost too big, which became clear during Volbeat and Kanye West. There must have been 40.000 people at each concerts. And even though you should think that all the festival-goers were at those two concerts, Arena was still packed for the Mew concert – which by the way is sob-soft music,” he laughs. This is why this year’s festival trip goes to the Czech festival Brutal Assault, where the program and size fit Bjørn much better.

However, while at Roskilde Festival anyway, Bjørn plans to attend some concerts – as much metal as possible. Gojira, Down and maybe Amon Amarth even though the latter is not one of Bjørn’s favourites. Moreover, he will attend something as metal foreign as Pet Shop Boys, he tells with a glint in his eye.

But is Roskilde Festival even a place for a band like Dawn of Demise then, if they are to gain new fans? “Hopefully. I think that people who listen to a lot of heavy metal will come to our concert, even though death metal normally might be too rough for them. When at the festival they don’t want to miss a thing,” Bjørn guesses.

As one of this year’s representatives of the Danish metal scene, Bjørn announces that it is doing great. Plenty of concerts with large audiences and of course a lot of excellent bands.

“And not even huge bands which people know like Illdisposed, Hatesphere, Mercenary and Mnemic, but also The Burning, The Cleansing, Scamp and Spectral Mortuary, just to mention a few,” says bass player Bjørn.
When asked if there is anything negative about the Danish metal scene, Bjørn answers that there might be a tendency to use the same producers:
“It says Tue Madsen and Jacob Hansen on everything”, he says and points out that the two gentlemen are not bad, but that the bands end up sounding alike.

This year’s Roskilde Festival will be the only festival performance by Dawn of Demise this summer. But the Jutlandic band will be playing at this fall’s Headbangers Ball Tour with Illdisposed and Hatesphere. Also, Dawn of Demise will be releasing an album on 11 September (of all dates). The title will be: “A Force Unstoppable”.
