From London to Roskilde on two wheels

You live in England, you want to go on festival, and you want to hear Radiohead. But it is raining at Glastonbury, and apart from this Radiohead is not coming because of the festival’s environmental policy. What do you do?

In Radiohead’s spirit – and because you have a great bike and like fresh air, you could do what Emma Street and Oliver Moore have done: cycle from London to Roskilde Festival.

“We did take the ferry across the sea”, Oliver tells us. “The weather has been really nice, and here there are ideal conditions for cyclists with many cycle paths,” Emma smiles. The two young people are standing there and looking healthy and happy, even though Emma thinks they need a bath.

It is their first time at Roskilde Festival, but they have already been lucky influencing the Festival before they arrived. “We wrote to the Festival to find out if there was a safe place for bikes. Our bikes are not of the cheap sort, you see,” says Oliver. “But there wasn’t. Then I wrote again, and when they heard our story, they found a place for us to park our bikes.”

In fact, the Festival liked the two Englishmen’s energy saving transportation initiative so much that a proper cycle parking facilities are in the plans for next year.

“We also emailed Radiohead, but they haven’t replied,” Oliver continues, and adds that they are also going to see Hot Chip and The Chemical Brothers. To save weight on the bikes, they did not bring a tent, but bought a ticket for Get A Tent instead. The two cyclists continue their trip after the Festival, where the final destination is Finland. There they are going to a wedding.
