”I’ll see you at the folk high school”By Michelle From Hoxer By the corner of the Pavilion area just next to Your Space, you can find the future Roskilde folk high school. During the week, festival goers have been able to get to know more about the plans of the school and at the same time contribute ideas for the values of a good folk high school. "The reception of the school has been really good. We have succeeded in establishing the school as a concept in people's minds. We have heard many say: "I'll see you at the school", so all in all it has worked out really well," Kenneth Sejlø Andersen, the principal of Roskilde folk high school, say. The idea of Roskilde folk high school is actually a result of the festival itself, thus the two things are closely related, Kenneth Sejlø Andersen explains: Just as on the festival, content and surroundings must have a connection, and the idea is that the spirit which characterizes the festival and the work behind the festival will become a part of Roskilde Højskole. There are no definite plans though that the students of the school need to work on subjects specifically concerning the festival, but the opportunity is obvious of course, Kenneth Sejlø Andersen thinks. Even though Roskilde folk high school is not able to accept student before 2010 at the earliest, they receive applications from interested teachers already. According to the principal, the teaching staff will consist of a permanent set of teachers, but besides that the plan is to recruit the rest of the instructors from 'the real world' in order to make to subjects more exciting. Therefore accounts & budget, network and specific projects will be a part of everyday life for the future students of the school. Kenneth Sejlø Andersen calls the subjects for "Event tools", and he explains that the subjects are meant to prime the students to create cultural events of different characters. "Our main target group is from 18 to 30 years old, but we do expect that people from businesses concerning electric lighting and sound could benefit from learning what actually forms the basis for the events," Kenneth Sejlø Andersen says. So far the matter of surroundings has been settled, while the pedagogical plans are still in need of the last final adjustments.
