Learning smart practice on a trapeze

Three large mats are situated at Agora M, ready for acrobatic exercises by Contemporary Circus performers, who are looking forward to entertaining and giving lessons to the festival goers.

Release your inner acrobat. At Agora M you have the opportunity to give the trapeze a try and practice acrobatics while hanging from a rope or a piece of fabric. Couples’ acrobatics is also on the agenda, where focus is placed on keeping your balance as well as juggling balls, sticks and diabolo.

All this will happen at the Contemporary Circus stage, which is instantly recognizable from Agora M, where this stage is erected by four masts and wires. Every day air acrobats will be visible hanging from the trapeze, which is fastened at the stage, and during the day everyone is able to participate. The evenings are confined to shows with professional performers.

Sofie, 20, studies at “Akademiet for Utæmmet Kreativitet”, a school for “unrestrained creativity”, and she will perform in circus shows with a personal touch in contrast to traditional circus.

“In Contemporary Circus everything is allowed, and there are no fixed limits. It’s possible to experiment a lot”, she explains.

Tuk, who performs with Sofie, elaborates on her thoughts:

“It’s some kind of theatrical performance combined with circus, and where it’s possible to add show-off elements from the tricks we can do”.

According to Sofie, even though Contemporary Circus requires a lot of training, the level of performance in the workshops is adjusted to each person participating, why there are no demands laimed at the practitioners’ physical abilities.

“It will be lots of fun, even though you don’t have any experience before hand”, she says.

As long as the participants are open towards new experiences, Sofie promises that the festival-goers will be able to find their inner trapeze spirits.
