Röyksopp – Experienced Roskilde Festival-goers ready for the night partyBy Signe Therkildsen The last time Röyksopp played at Roskilde Festival was in 2005, when they played a very popular and well-visited concert on the Metropol stage. Torbjørn remembers it well and says: ”People reacted really well and enjoyed themselves. We have always been happy to play there. It seems that Roskilde is one of the best places to play our music. We are really looking forward to playing there.” I ask Torbjørn, if he expects the concert on Friday night to be just as popular as in 2005. ”I don’t know, there is a good space of time between our releases, and people that lived in 2005 might be dead now,” says Torbjørn with a grin. Röyksopp return quickly to their tour after their concert at Roskilde Festival. It understandably suits the succesful electropopper well, that he does not need to spend more time at the festival area and only has to perform on stage. “It’s pretty dirty, and smells of urine, but thats the way it is at all festivals.” Röyksopp was in Denmark earlier this year at the Copenhagen venue Pumpehuset. ”It was fantastic. It was good to be back," says Torbjørn about the concert in Denmark, which was, in fact, the first with material from their latest album Junior. The affiliation to Denmark is without doubt sizeable. He tells us that the concert at Roskilde will differ from the concert in Pumpehuset. "We will be more focused on energy.” On the duo´s latest album Junior, there are a number of female guest vocalists, just like they had Anneli Drecker with them at the Pumpehuset concert. Torbjørn reveals that Friday's concert will also be in company with a female guest vocalist. Maybe it is Robyn who accompanied them at a concert at the Arvika Festival in Sweden 2 July? The concert will also include songs from their new album Junior, although we should not expect to hear anything from the sister album Senior at Fridays concert. Torbjørn closes in best pop star style with a comment to Roskilde Festival goers: ”Respect all others, but don’t over do it.” The message is hereby passed on. | ![]() Röyksopp - photo: Stian Andersen |
