Roskilde Festival with sunstroke and blistersBy Karsten Bruun A little group of patients sit at the First Aid station next to Orange Stage and wait patiently to get their injuries and disabilities checked. Inside the tent people are under treatment; some get their cuts and bruises cleansed, others get a fresh bandage. The medics are busy looking out for their patients, so they refer to their press spokesman. "The beautiful weather has meant that people are more active. Many have had too much sun and blisters have also beset many, because they walk so much," says Lars Rasmussen, the press spokesman for the medics at Roskilde Festival. "And when people take off their shoes because of blisters, they risk cutting themselves on broken glass or the like," states Lars Rasmussen, who categorise the greater part of the medics' tasks to be "injuries caused by the great weather". The chemist's are busy serving customers next to the First Aid station. "It is mostly infections, but this year's nice weather has also caused great demand for sun block and allergy drugs," Susanne Jensen explains. She shows a prescription written on the back of a beer frame by a medic who did not have the prescription pad by hand. "It is kind of fun and uncommon," Susanne says, and she collects prescriptions and dispatches them in Roskilde daily. "Many people have come to us with muscle pains caused by too much walking and sleep on poor bases," says Susanne, and she has also relieved many sore throats from too much singing at the concerts, and herpes caused by bad hygiene. Susanne and her colleagues from Roskilde Domapotek (chemist's in Roskilde), run the well-supplied field chemist's at Roskilde Festival. A chemist's shop has been at Roskilde for 13 years, and Susanne has been aboard from the beginning. "It is the same type of injuries we treat, but we are more experienced and bring those products that people demand," Susanne says about the chemist's, where more and more come to receive service and guidance from the skilled staff. | ![]() Photo: Casper Christoffersen |
