Spontaneous cheers can be heard when Simon with a well-placed guitar solo squashes the last alien on the screen, just a few inches before it reaches his space ship. But the joy is short lived as new hordes of aliens pop up, and Simon savagely beats at his guitar to defeat them.

”Come on! Kill!” somebody yells from behind, while Simon sends buckets of laser shots at the enemy in an intense death fight.

Somehow, the monsters in the computer game Rock Invaders get the upper hand in the end, but with an impressive effort Simon sneaks in on tenth place on the high-score list with 43,000 points.

Simon finds the game ”mega hot” – even though your fingers will hurt like crazy.

Old-school video games

Do you love to rip your fingers till the blood flows, or do you like Simon know how to handle a rock spade? Then drop by Rock Invaders right next to Pavilion Junior. Here you will find two video consoles like the ones from the 80s. With a pink electric guitar as a joystick, you fly your space ship around on the screen. And then it is just about bulleting down rows of attacking aliens, who are closing in on you at an increasing pace.

Kristoffer Buch from DTU (Technical University of Denmark) is among the creators of Rock Invaders and so far the record holder with 49.000 point. Kristoffer explains that the game is made as part of a study project, and it was not ready until right before Roskilde Festival.

Two electric guitars have been offered as rewards, so more than honour is at stake when you fight for survival in Rock Invaders’ mashup of a classic.
