Big Boi and Janelle Monáe to Roskilde Festival
Top-notch American hip hop and R&B come to the Danish festival this summer.

A couple of heavyweights in hip hop and R&B joins the music programme today.

BIG BOI (US) is normally one half of Outkast – one of the biggest hip hop successes ever. The American hip hopper and producer caught everyone by surprise when he delivered a solo album, Sir Lucious Left Foot… The Son of Chico Dusty, of a similar magnitude. Big Boi can pimp beats, quirky verses, funk, pop choruses and sultry synths, making it a small revelation. This is a draw for all hip hop fans, getting to see Antwan Andre Patton in a concert that may offer old Outkast tracks as well.

JANELLE MONÁE (US) has in a short time established herself as a singer, songwriter, dancer and sci-fi nut. Miss Monáe mixes R&B, soul, hip hop and alternative rock in a musical storytelling that is equal parts musical from outer space and Stevie Wonder. The debut album The ArchAndroid – which is produced by Big Boi, among others – is one of last year’s most critically acclaimed albums in any earthly genre. Intergalactic concepts and ambitions of this caliber rarely come off this succesfully from a young debutant.

Norwegian music coming up
The Norwegian expo and music festival by:Larm takes place this week, and Roskilde Festival presents its own stage up there, RF@by:Larm at the Jaeger venue. On this occasion, a couple of Norwegian acts are to be announced for Roskilde when by:Larm kicks off in Oslo. More on that soon…
