Roskilde Festival shows sustainability at international architecture exhibition

Roskilde Festival has several ideas of how to organise temporary and densely populated cities. Architects and urban planners can see how at a big architecture exhibition in Venice.

Roskilde Festival has been invited to participate in Denmark's official presention at the 11th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice. The Danish exhibition is presented under the title ECOTOPEDIA – Walk the Talk. La Biennal in Venice, which opens 10 September, is the world's most important architectural event. 50 national pavilions, exhibitions and workshops attract architects and other interested parties from all over the world.

Roskilde Festival participates as one of seven examples on initiatives focusing on sustainability and especially on how future cities can be organised in more sustainable ways.

Roskilde Festival's contribution focuses on temporary settlements. Several climate researchers say that a growing part of the world population will live in temporary settlements in consequence of the future climate changes. Roskilde Festival has suggestions for solutions which might be workable in other parts of the world. Roskilde Festival is actually the most densely populated 'city' in the world. Over 110,000 inhabitants at the festival live in a community five times denser than the inhabitants in Shanghai which is one of the most densely populated cities.

Roskilde Festival has focused on creating a more sustainable city with participation from the inhabitants. In our contribution to the exhibition architects and urban planners show examples of how Roskilde Festival manages to organise a very dense and temporary city. The exhibition also points towards an even greater effort regarding climate changes, which are presented at next year's festival.
