A routine control of the water quality in the swimming lake at Camping East Friday, showed so high concentrations of coli-bacteria, that it would be health-hazardous to swim in the water. The environmental authorities therefore decided to close down the lake for the remainder of the festival at noon Friday.

The control works

 Jan Bechmann is section-manager for the camping-grounds. He regrets, that the festival guests no longer can get cooled down in the lake. But after all he is happy to see, that the control is working:

Snow-canons for cooling

The festival's spokeswoman Christina Bilde and the rest of the festival management are now thinking up alternative ways to cool down the festival guests:

 - Roskilde Skiing Club brought snow-canons, and they can be used for the purpose. And then there is the pool inside the festival-grounds. Apart from that, we have to think about, what we can do for the remainder of this years festival, and what we can do in the future to ensure, that the swimming lake is only used by the audience for its intended purpose, says Christina Bilde.

The pollution of Coli-bacteria is a result of the lake being used as a toilet, and an infection will result in diahrea.
