Tuesday 29.03.11 Let us help the homeless who do not receive help from the governmentProjekt Udenfor has 10 employees, but their work is greatly dependent on their volunteers. Every day around 40 volunteers bring food and care out to the homeless on the street with the Mobile Café. Besides food and a chat, Projekt Udenfor also brings volunteer nurses and veterinarians to the streets. The nurses care for the homeless and veterinarians examine the homeless people's four-legged friends. But even though there are volunteers on the streets each day, Projekt Udenfor still needs money for both petrol, food and medicine. This is what you can support if you choose to participate in Roskilde Festival's charity fundraising for Projekt Udenfor. Projekt Udenfor consider themselves guests on the street. They enter the homeless people's 'home', and they do so with respect. There are several homeless people who, because of mental illness, cannot reside in a housing on a permanent basis. Projekt Udenfor respects that and try to help them on the street, not by deciding what is best for them. Projekt Udenfor helps the homeless no matter what nationality they have. Denmark has some complicated rules: homeless who do not have a residence permit or are not registered cannot get public assistance. Therefore, Projekt Udenfor needs private support – from you and me – to help the foreign homeless too. Projekt Udenfor also runs a volunteer project with voluntary visitors to the homeless who are moving into permanent housing. It can be an incredibly difficult transition, and the volunteers from Projekt Udenfor help the homeless by supporting them in the process and talking them through any challenges. Often there is no one else to do it. The reasons for supporting Projekt Udenfor with Roskilde Festival are many.
