Thursday 26.01.12 Volunteer commitment is profitableTheir volunteers cook for you in the food stalls, empty the trashcans, check your wristband, find your lost property, sell sunscreen and clean up after the party. Out of Roskilde Festival's more than 30,000 volunteers, 23,000 of them do trade and service tasks for a variety of societies and organisations. Now we’ve crushed the numbers on our calculator and found the total economic result of the societies’ indispensable engagement at Roskilde Festival 2011. The numbers show a total profit of DKK 17.7 million (approx. EUR 250,000). Money that in large will be used in societies and on cultural projects in Denmark and abroad. The societies behind the festival's 116 food stalls have achieved the third best result over the years. Although the stalls constantly have many mouths to feed over an entire week, last summer’s scattered rain showers – and a single cloudburst on Saturday night – caused less activity in the food stalls compared to a sunny year. For societies doing service work, for instance checking your wristband at the entrances, the sold-out festival means a maximum payout. Their settlement with Roskilde Festival is dependent on ticket sales. Throughout the years, the participating societies have earned more than 2.5 million euro on their work at Roskilde Festival. Roskilde Festival's own profit, which is donated in full to cultural and charitable projects, is announced in connection with the society’s annual general meeting on 27 March 2012. | ![]() Photo: Per Lange |
