The audio snippet is taken from “Only the Strong Survives“ by DJ Krush. He performed at Roskilde Festival in 2004. He has released the album Strictly Turntablized on Mo’ Wax in 1994. Luke Vibert has also been signed to Mo’ Wax and played Roskilde the same year as DJ Krush. In 2001 DJ Krush released the album Zen which features Belgian all-female a cappella group Zap Mama on the track "Danger of Love". They performed at Roskilde in 1997.

The audio snippet is taken from Einstürzende Neubauten’s “Was Ist Ist”. They performed at Roskilde Festival in 1989. Their vocalist/guitarist Blixa Bargeld joined Nick Cave’s famous backing band The Bad Seeds in 1983. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have played at Roskilde five times (1990, 1996, 1997, 2001 and 2009). Einstürzende Neubauten’s former drummer FM Einheit played the drums on two of the tracks on American avant-garde performer Diamanda Galás’ album Saint of the Pit. She performed at Roskilde Festival in 1987.

The audio snippet is taken from “TNT” by Tortoise. They revolutionised American 90s indie rock by incorporating musical genres such as kraut rock, dub, various jazz styles, classical minimalism and electronica. They performed at Roskilde Festival in 1996 and 1998. In 2006 they made the covers album The Brave and the Bold together with Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy who performed at Roskilde in 2003 and 2008. The Brave and the Bold contains a cover of the song “Cravo é Canela” by Brazilian singer-songwriter Milton Nascimento. He performed at Roskilde Festival in 1988.

The audio snippet is taken from the track “With You” by The Flaming Lips. Their first European show ever was at Roskilde Festival in 1987. The Flaming Lips have performed at Roskilde Festival five times (1987, 1996, 1999, 2000 and 2007). Their stage shows are always wacky and fun. For instance, in 1999 they parked 14 cars in front of Orange Stage as a part of their Car Experience stage show. Front man Wayne Coyne instructed the passengers through a megaphone to turn the car stereos on and off creating a different kind of musical experience. “With You” is also the title of a demo track that The Smashing Pumpkins recorded in 1989. They have performed at Roskilde Festival once, in 1997.

The audio snippet is taken from “Fat And Slim” by Jamaican reggae artist Eek-A-Mouse. He performed at Roskilde Festival in 2002. The name “Fat And Slim” can be associated with British DJ Norman Cook’s stage name Fatboy Slim. He performed at Roskilde Festival once, in 2004 – in fact, he played not on but in front of Orange Stage. In the late 80s Norman Cook formed the band Beats International. Their debut album Let Them Eat Bingo includes the number one hit “Dub Be Good to Me” which samples the bass line from “The Guns of Brixton” by British punk pioneers The Clash. They played at Roskilde in 1985.

The audio snippet is taken from Norwegian black metal band Dimmu Borgir’s “The Night Masquerade”. They performed at Roskilde Festival in 1998. In 2000 they released the compilation True Kings of Norway, consisting of EPs from black metal bands Dimmu Borgir, Ancient, Immortal, Emperor and Arcturus. Immortal performed at Roskilde in 2003. The drummer Jan Axel Blomberg aka Hellhammer played drums with Dimmu Borgir from 2005 to 2007, but he started his career drumming with black metal pioneers Mayhem. They played at Roskilde Festival in 2001.

The audio snippet is from the track ”The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” by poet, musician and spoken-word artist Gil Scott-Heron. He performed at Roskilde Festival in 1995. He sadly passed away earlier in 2011, but his music lives on. Gil Scott-Heron was sampled by many artists, and his song “The Bottle” was sampled in “Black Is Black” by hip hop pioneers Jungle Brothers (feat. Q-tip). They performed at Roskilde Festival in 1997. “The Bottle” was also sampled by De La Soul, but they performed at Roskilde twice (1990 and 2003). Chris Cunningham directed the music video “New York Is Killing Me” for Gil Scott-Heron. A selection of Cunnigham's works was shown at Roskilde in 2011.

The audio snippet is taken from “Cler Achel” by Tinariwen. This compelling band from the desert region of northern Mali has performed at Roskilde Festival three times (2001, 2005 and 2010). Members of The Dirty Dozen Brass Band from New Orleans appear on Tinariwen’s latest album Tassili. The Dirty Dozen performed at Roskilde Festival in 1997. They also performed the famous “Horn Intro” on Modest Mouse’s album Good News for People Who Love Bad News. Modest Mouse performed at Roskilde Festival in 2001.

The audio snippet is taken from an acoustic live version of the track “Lisztomania” by French indie rock band Phoenix. They performed at Roskilde Festival twice (2001 and 2006). Lisztomania is also the title of a film about Hungarian composer Franz Liszt starring The Who front man Roger Daltrey. The Who performed at Roskilde in 2007. American band Animal Collective has sampled Franz Liszt’s “Liebestraum No. 3” in their song “Cuckoo Cuckoo”. Animal Collective performed at Roskilde Festival in 2006.

The audio snippet is taken from the track “V-2 Schneider” by David Bowie. He performed at Roskilde Festival in 1996. “V-2 Schneider” is a tribute to German electronic pioneers Kraftwerk’s founding member Florian Schneider. Kraftwerk performed at Roskilde in 1998. English band New Order sampled the choir sound in Kraftwerk’s song “Uranium” on the single “Blue Monday”. New Order performed at Roskilde Festival three times (1984, 1993 and 2002).

The audio snippet is taken from the track “Seabeast” by Mastodon. They released their latest album The Hunter earlier this year. They have performed at Roskilde Festival three times (2005, 2007 and 2011). In 2011 Mastodon headlined Roskilde Festival along with Iron Maiden, among others. Neurosis’ Scott Kelly has the lead vocals on the track “Spectrelight” off Mastodon’s latest album. Neurosis has performed at Roskilde once, in 2009.

The sound snippet is taken from the cover track “The Edge of Glory” performed by British indie-disco-pop band Friendly Fires. They performed at Roskilde Festival in 2009. “The Edge of Glory” was originally released by Lady Gaga. In 2010 she shared the stage with the loop-creating and ukulele-playing singer-songwriter tUnE-yArDs aka Merrill Garbus. The latter two haven’t performed at Roskilde before.

Friendly Fires and tUnE-yArDs are now officially on the bill for 2012!

The audio snippet is taken from “Ise Nla” by Tony Allen. He was the co-founder of the musical genre Afrobeat and performed at Roskilde Festival in 2003 and 2009. Fela Kuti was the main creator of Afrobeat, and his sons Femi Kuti and Seun Anikulapo Kuti performed together at Roskilde Festival in 2011. Tony Allen har collaborated with lots of artists. For instance, he has played the drums on Charlotte Gainsbourg's "5:55", on Air's "Once Upon a Time", he's played alongside Salif Keïta on-stage on the African Soul Rebels tour in 2008, and he's played and recorded on several occasions with Finnish musician Jimi Tenor. Tony Allen has never played with Red Hot Chili Pepper, but at the moment he's collaborating with Flea (from RHCP) and Damon Albarn on a new project called Rocketjuice & The Moon.

The audio snippet is taken from the track “The Perfect Beat” by Talib Kweli featuring KRS-One. Talib Kweli performed at Roskilde in 2007. KRS-One was a part of the legendary hip hop ensemble Boogie Down Productions who performed at Roskilde Festival in 1992. The track sampled in “The Perfect Beat” is “Do It Twice” by Bob Marley & The Wailers. They performed at Roskilde Festival in 1978.

The audio snippet is taken from Canadian band Fucked Up’s “Queen of Hearts“. They performed at Roskilde Festival in 2009. Sebastien Grainger of dance-punk duo Death from Above 1979 lends his vocals to the song “Twice Born” from Fucked Up’s album The Chemistry of Common Life. Death from Above 1979 played at Roskilde in 2005.

The audio snippet is taken from “The Invasion” by roots reggae singer and songwriter Burning Spear. He performed at Roskilde in 2001. English ambient house group The Orb sampled Burning Spear’s track “Civilized Reggae” in “U.F.Orb”. They have performed at Roskilde three times (1990, 1991 and 1997). Clement S. “Coxone” Dodd produced Burning Spear’s debut album Studio One Presents Burning Spear, and he has also produced Horace Andy who collaborated with English trip hop pioneers Massive Attack. They performed for the first time at Roskilde Festival as Massive Attack Sound System in 1995. They returned in 1996, and later in 2003.

The audio snippet is taken from Maceo Parker’s “Uptown Up”. He performed as a solo artist at Roskilde in 1994. He was a part of George Clinton’s collective Parliament/Funkadelic who performed at the festival twice (1994 and 2006). Their bassist Bootsy Collins performed at Roskilde Festival together with nineties dance outfit Deee-Lite in 1991. Maceo Parker is best known for his work with James Brown in the 60s.

The audio snippet is taken from “Unchallenged Hate” by English death metal band Napalm Death. They performed at Roskilde in 1995. Swedish grindcore metal heads Nasum did a cover of “Unchallenged Hate” on their double album Grind Finale. Napalm Death went on the ‘Bound by the Road Tour' together with Californian death metal band DevilDriver in 2008.

Neither Nasum nor DevilDriver have performed at Roskilde Festival before, but they are now officially on the bill for 2012!

The audio snippet is taken from The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s “When Jokers Attack”. They played at Roskilde Festival in 2007. Their bassist Will Carruthers has previously been a member of both Spiritualized and Spacemen 3, but the latter have never performed at Roskilde. Spiritualized performed at the festival in 1993, 1998, 2002 and in 2007.

The audio snippet is taken from “The Cuckoo” by Taj Mahal. He performed at Roskilde Festival in 1979. Gang Starr sampled this track in their song “The Planet”. They performed at the festival in 1991. Taj Mahal collaborated with Ali Farka Touré on his album The Source, and Ali Farka Touré performed at Roskilde Festival for the first time in 1988. He later returned to the festival in 2005 before he sadly passed away in 2006.

The audio snippet is taken from the track "Deus" by Icelandic band The Sugarcubes. They performed at Roskilde Festival in 1988. The Sugarcubes' female singer, Björk, has performed at the festival as a solo artist four times (1994, 1996, 2003 and 2007), and as you probably already know, she's also playing in 2012. The Belgian band dEUS has visited Roskilde twice (1995 and 2006).

The audio clip is taken from Charles Bradley’s “The World (Is Going Up in Flames)”. He has performed at Roskilde once, in 2011. He is signed to Daptone Records and three of their artists (including Charles Bradley) have performed at Roskilde. The first time was in 2002 when Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra performed at the festival, and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings performed at Roskilde in 2008.

The audio snippet is taken from the track “Harold of the Rocks” by funk metal post-punk rockers Primus who first performed at Roskilde Festival in 1991. The 2002 reissue of their album Frizzle Fry included the track “Hello Skinny/Constantinople”, a cover of the tracks “Hello Skinny” and “Constantinople” by The Residents. They played at Roskilde Festival in 1999.

The audio snippet is taken from M83’s “Midnight City”. They performed at Roskilde Festival in 2005. They remixed fellow Frenchmen Daft Punk’s track “Fall” (with Big Black Delta) from the soundtrack remix album Tron:Legacy Reconfigured. Daft Punk has performed at Roskilde once, in 1997. They have been name-checked twice by LCD Soundsystem on the singles “Losing My Edge” and “Daft Punk Is Playing at My House”. The first time LCD Soundsystem played at Roskilde Festival was in 2007.

The audio snippet is taken from “Lahaha” by Shugo Tokumaru who performed at Roskilde Festival in 2009. The name of his band is Gellers. Sex Pistols played at Roskilde Festival in 1996. Those who were at Sex Pistols' concert remember it for being quite short. Johnny Rotten and company left the stage after few songs because some audience members threw bottles at them.

The audio snippet is ”Pittsburgh Sound” by Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifa. He brought along Yelawolf as a special guest on his Waken Baken Tour in 2010. Yelawolf is signed to Eminem’s Shady Records. Royce da 5’9” is one half of the hip hop duo Bad Meets Evil. The other half is Eminem. Royce da 5’9” is also part of the super group Slaughterhouse.

None of these guys have ever performed at Roskilde Festival before, but Wiz Khalifa, Yelawolf and Royce da 5’9” are now officially on the bill for Roskilde 2012!

The audio snippet is taken from “Dàdrà” by legendary sitar player Ravi Shankar. He performed at Roskilde Festival back in 1975. His daughter Anoushka Shankar, who also plays the sitar, played at the festival in 2006. She was joined by Eric Clapton when she conducted her father's song "Arpan" at the memorial concert for George Harrison in 2002. Eric Clapton played at Roskilde Festival in 1986.

The audio clip is from the track “Lost In The World” by American rap artist Kanye West. He has performed at Roskilde Festival twice (2006 and 2009). “Lost In The World” features vocals by singer-songwriter Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, and you can also hear a sample from their track “Woods”. Justin Vernon recently collaborated with James Blake on the track “Fall Creek Boys Choir”. James Blake performed at Roskilde in 2011.

Justin Vernon has never performed at Roskilde Festival, but he is bringing his band Bon Iver to the festival in 2012!

The audio snippet is taken from “Page 3” by Fantômas. Their drummer Dave Lombardo was on tour with Slayer who has played at Roskilde Festival in 1996, 1998, 2002 and 2008. Fantômas’ vocalist is Mike Patton who performed four times at Roskilde in 2005. Besides performing with Fantômas he also performed as Maldoror with the Japanese noise god Merzbow, alongside beat boxer Rahzel and together with John Erik Kaada from Norwegian avant-garde jazz band Cloroform. The last time Mike Patton performed at Roskilde was with Faith No More in 2009.

The audio snippet is taken from Vampire Weekend’s “Giving Up the Gun”. They played at Roskilde Festival in 2010. The bloke appearing in the music video for “Giving Up the Gun” is RZA. The first time he performed at Roskilde Festival was in 1995 with the hip hop group Gravediggaz. RZA is also a part of the legendary hip hop ensemble Wu-Tang Clan. They performed at Roskilde Festival in 2004.

The audio snippet is taken from the track "Che" by Suicide. They played at Roskilde in 2003. M.I.A. sampled their track "Ghost Rider" in her song "Born Free", and she performed at Roskilde Festival in 2011. M.I.A.'s ex-boyfriend Thomas Wesley Pentz aka Diplo played at Roskilde Festival for the first time together with A-Trak back in 2006.
