Frederik, also known as DJ Freddy!

17 summers.

Amager, yo!

This year will be my hat trick. My first time was in ’07 and despite the scary weather and drunk people I was hooked!

Hmmm… Practically all the time! There have of course been some fantastic musical experiences. Yet what I remember as most entertaining was when I saw Crab Goalkeeper in Cinema – I think it was in ’07. A whole audience full of drunk and muddy people who were all screaming ‘CRAAB SEEEX’. That must be the definition of ‘The Orange Feeling’.

MAAAAAAAAARS VOOOOLTA! I have the most unrealistically high expectations to that concert but I still expect it to live up to them. They are supposed to be really intense live, and then there is a new album on the way! Apart from that, I have bought a banana costume that I look forward to roaming about in.

Dillinger Escape Plan last year. I have never been to a concert with such a wild – but still really positive – atmosphere. The whole band just went crazy and Odeon was transformed into one big moshpit. Still, everyone looked out for each other and the dingerling was really fired up!

Of other fantastic concerts, I can mention Battles and Trentemøller – I hope he repeats the success this year!

Nothing can top Red Hot Chili Peppers in being ass. For some reason, I had wandered into the pit even though I only wanted to hear songs from Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik. They were lame, uninspiring and in a bad mood – I left after the fourth song.

West is pest. I have only been over there once – East is just more street.

Buggi burger! That place is amazing! That you can pass out with this huge burger and then wake up to the leftovers is manifique! Yet nachos is also a classic!

Palo Alto, California but I live in Los Angeles now.

First time in 2007, and this summer will be my 3rd.

The weather was horrible in 2007 and even though I camped with some friends from Sweden, I didn't get to hang around with them and just wandered around on my own. I was in awe of everything I saw as you just can't do something like this in the States.

I met a ton of people who I am still in contact with to this day, was interviewed for the Danish press and recognized from the forum by several people several times. Once in the showers, which was a little odd for me. So for me it was just about everything my first time there in 2007, aside from the weather and mud.

This is the first year that there are a lot of bands I have actually personally wanted to see and never got the chance to see in Los Angeles (Pet Shop Boys). So I am really looking forward to that and seeing all the friends I met the previous two times I went. This is the 2nd time a group of us will be camping together in the Strangers with Candy Camp. It's a group of really cool people from all over the world and it's just a good time had by all!

The closing night band Basement Jaxx from 2007. The weather was absolutely horrible, but I didn't care. It was such a cool vibe and everyone there had a blast! You could just feel something in the air. It was awesome!

I'm usually so intoxicated that I do not always remember what exactly went on, so I can't really say. I tend not to see bands I don't like in the first place and would just wander away if I thought the music sucked and do something else anyway.

So far I have only camped in the West, so I can't really tell you what I prefer. I have heard some horror stories about East but it does seem to be more of a party atmosphere, which can be a good thing and a bad thing. They certainly seem to be having a good time each time I stumble through their area on the way to or from various concerts.

This will sound strange, but I really like the chicken sandwiches they serve all over the festival. You can't get some of the stuff they have in Scandinavia in the US. Like remoulade which I am addicted to even though it's almost pure fat. So anything with that in it is fantastic! But truth be told, as an American I will eat just about anything.

Julie

I’m 28 - and dreading 30 a bit.

Copenhagen, Denmark

I’ve been twice (’06 and ’08)

The first time I went, the weather was cloudy during the warm-up days, but on Thursday night Guns N’ Roses came on Orange Stage, the clouds vanished, the sky was blue, everyone was singing along to "Sweet Child O’ Mine" and I knew that I was hooked on Roskilde.

I look very much forward to Faith No More, Klovner i Kamp, Kanye West (I know from ’06 that he is a great act) and lots of others, but most of all I look forward to what Roskilde is most famous for –  the fantastic festival atmosphere, the happy people, party and of course COLD BEER.

The Streets on Orange ’08 was fucking great, I was way up in the clouds the entire concert. He did a bloody good job, the tiny Mike Skinner. He managed to fire up under the audience and keep them that way through the entire concert.

I had been looking forward to The Streets ’06 like crazy, but the concert had sadly been underestimated and Arena was not near big enough. We got wedged in the crowd and I was lifted off the ground and carried along by the masses. When I was finally pulled out, I was too shocked and we had to leave and therefore missed the entire concert.

I’ve lived in East both times and will definitely do the same this year. I don’t really know why, but I guess I’m influenced by the people I’ve gone with the past years.

My mum works by the sails where you can buy fried pork with parsley sauce. Lovely, crispy pork and eminent parsley sauce. Yummy!

Every year when the fence is pushed over :-) Then you know that you have 8 days of party ahead!

But if I have to describe a definitive moment, it must be Friday night/morning in the rainy year of 2007 when the sun was just about to rise. Me and a friend had sat down in the middle of all the mud on two beach chairs at a totally desolate festival site in front of Orange Stage. In the few minutes when the sun was right above the stage, the sky almost cleared and everything was pure bliss – bloody beautiful! After that you could take a few more days in the mud:-)

Spending 8 days in heaven with my friends and my girlfriend, all the (hopefully) great weather, the cold beers, the great music and all the wonderful unpredictabilities that the festival brings! On the music front, it must be Malk De Koijn and Nine Inch Nails.

Radiohead 2008 and/or Muse 2007. Two concerts I really can’t put into words.

Hot Chip ’07… Was really disappointed about the slimmed down version they chose to perform with – and they were also boring to look at. Boo.

East – right by Arena ;)

The meat tent (don’t remember its real name), which unfortunately wasn't there in ’08. They served giant pita breads STUFFED with beef and dressing. Bring it back!

User of the week 27 May: Benno

Benno. That was also my forum name on the old forum, but now I go simply by "B."

Quite old, keeping the average age up a bit.

The south/west of The Netherlands in a province called Zeeland (Sea-land).

Six times since 2003 - and hopefully I can keep it up for another 6 years, at least!

Our first night at the Roskilde warm-up in '03. When we eventually arrived on Tuesday night after a two day delay and long drive, we somehow managed to find a perfect spot just over the bridge in front of entrance 10 (although we only had room for one 2-persons igloo tent to be shared by three grown-up men).

We managed to take at least three hours to finally pitch the tent, drinking and handing out most of our beer supply to 'helpful' passers-by. We went on partying at our little camp and many other camps until the next morning. That night we made friends for life and the tone was set for future Roskilde Festivals.

The Metallica concert in 2003 was our first headliner concert at the Orange Stage and it seemed like everyone at Roskide Festival was at that concert. I'll never forget standing in the middle of the enormous crowd, surrounded by tens of thousands of people rocking out.

Meeting my chat and forum friends at the chat meet and the forum BBQ (see the forum). Dungen, Friendly Fires and hopefully some nice weather.

The Shins. Obviously you get to discover a lot of new acts at Roskilde Festival, but The Shins is one of the acts that I kept following actively after their terrific Roskilde Festival performance.

Guns N' Roses. I find that most 'comeback acts' disappoint me and I now try to avoid them altogether but the Guns N' Roses performance was an abomination. I hope Roskilde Festival will avoid gimmick bookings like this in the future.

East, or what's left of it :-(
That's where we ended up our first time (right in front of entrance 10) and that's where we've camped ever since. Most of the large theme camps can usually be found at East as well. Although we can no longer keep up with the 24/7 party kids we'll remain loyal to East.

I'm still surprised every year with the variety and quality of the different food stalls at the festival. That being said, it's the simple but tasteful dishes like the spaghetti and the city centre hamburgers that are most popular in our camp.

User of the week 19 May: Henning

My name is Henning.

I’m 36 years old.

I live in Skive, in Jutland.

I’ve been five times – this year will be the sixth time. My debut was in 2001 and after three years’ absence I returned in 2005 and have gone ever since. I usually say that even though I’ve reached a certain age, I plan on participating till I’m carried out feet first;)

Can I answer 'all the time'? But one recurrent thing has to be Thursday on the opening of Orange Stage – going through the gates and getting that yearly hug – love it!

I’m a volunteer so it’ll almost have to be arriving at Darup on Saturday and meeting the 100-200 people that I’ve got to know through the years. Musically, I really look forward to seeing Trentemøller Thursday night on Orange – I’m sure it’ll be monumental greatness.

Several concerts spring to mind: Trentemøller in 2007, Audioslave in 2005, Tool in 2001 – but few things can compare to the concert that Sergent Garcia played in the old Ballroom in 2006. It stands out as the best concert I’ve been to anywhere!

Now, one has a tendency of repressing such things but I was rather disappointed with two concerts in 2007 – Beastie Boys did not live up to my (admittedly great) expectations and then there was Red Hot Chili Peppers that same year - ’nough said.

The times I’ve stayed at the festival area, it has been in West just as that is where I’ve primarily been working, and I’ve always enjoyed it there.

Hehe, well I work at a burger joint so I guess I have to say the De Luxe Burger from Muskelsvindfonden’s stall in West. But otherwise, it is an annual tradition to drop by Mor Tove for a box on Friday – and I look forward to it every year.

Liam Cross

I'm 21 years old and loving it.

Norfolk, England

I've been three times ('06, '07 and '08).

My best Roskilde moment was in 2006. It was the first night of the festival and we decided to walk around the site drinking beer and meeting new people. It was my first festival and I had a great time.

Firstly the music, which is already looking brilliant this year. There's no feeling better than standing in front of a Roskilde stage watching a band. Then there's the atmosphere, which is amazing. The people at the festival make it the best party possible. I'm looking forward to sitting in the camp with my friends, drinking Tuborg and having a laugh without a care in the world.

The best concert I've ever seen is Roger Waters. It was really, really good and brought a tear to the eye.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers in 2007. I am a fan of the band, but sadly this concert was poor.

I camped in East for my first two years, and in West last year for the first time. Out of the two, I definitely prefer East, but West is fun too.

That's an easy question. The bolognaise. It's awesome.
