It's not an everyday event that a band breaks through the sound barrier with something as classic as solid rock songs with the guitar at the center. But the Los Angeles band The Sophs has quickly built up a solid hype with catchy songs, sharp lyrics, and a fresh take on guitar rock with elements of both indie pop and punk.
The songs have bring associations to names like The Strokes and Weezer, but the band also draws on more classic inspirations such as ZZ Top and rustic Delta blues. It all comes together in a style that keeps classic songwriting virtues in focus, while at the same time burning through with intense presence on stage – not least thanks to the charismatic frontman Ethan Ramon.
However, The Sophs are clearly more than just a strong front figure. They manage to transform a powerful band energy into a versatile expression that impressed the legendary English label Rough Trade Records so much that they promptly signed the band after receiving a demo. The first in the summer of 2025 for the release of their debut single "Sweat" and performances at, among others, the English festival End of the Road.
Expectations are already sky-high for the band's debut album, which will be released in 2026, when the band will also be making an appearance at the Roskilde Festival. If you want to see for yourself that indie rock is alive and well, this is definitely the place to be.
