Explore dyslexia in a new way – through strength and creativity

Step into the world of dyslexia as Danish artist Julie Nymann invites festivalgoers to experience the unique strengths that emerge when navigating a world not always designed for everyone.

As one of the 700 million people worldwide with dyslexia – including more than 400,000 in Denmark – Julie Nymann offers a unique perspective on both the challenges and the creative problem-solving that comes with developing alternative skills in a text-centered society.

At Gloria’s foyer, her large-scale installation our voises carry futur dreams explores how colors and words shape the way we see ourselves in society. You’re invited to interact with the sculptures and reflect on the surrounding slogans, imagining a world that values abilities and embraces neurodiversity.

At Platform, her sound installation Advantages of Being Dyslexic offers a playful and immersive listening experience with voices, personal stories, and a live choir. The installation amplifies the many ways dyslexia is experienced and celebrates the power of community.

The choir includes VUC Roskilde students with lived experience of dyslexia and professional singers. The performance will be in Danish, but everyone is welcome.

Through her work at both Gloria and Platform, Julie Nymann presents a story of believing in and embracing neurodiversity. Her work sparks conversations about vulnerability, mutual development, and pride in being different, while emphasizing the strength found in community.

Julie Nymann is a multidisciplinary artist, graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen (2024). Her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows, both nationally and internationally.

Julie Nymann’s work is presented at the festival in collaboration with Art Hub Copenhagen.
