Gigantic laser animations meet opera in a breathtaking spectacle

Step into a world where humans, mythical creatures, and ghostly giants merge in a mesmerizing fusion of light and sound. For the first time at Roskilde Festival, acclaimed British artist Matt Copson will animate his enormous laser projections live, transforming Platform into an eerie and enchanting stage.

In Matt Copson's hands, Platform becomes a stage for a cast of unsettling creatures inspired by figures from medieval folklore, brought to life through his signature use of sharp, flickering laser projections that evoke a sense of unease and wonder. As festivalgoers walk in circles around the stage, they will witness these creatures emerge from the darkness, accompanied by an atmospheric soundtrack blending myth and opera.

Drawing inspiration from cave paintings, absurd theater, and 1950s son et lumière, Matt Copson creates a disturbing universe where the audience will encounter the tall uncanny monolithic characters on Platform at the same time every night of the festival.

For the past several years, Matt Copson has focused on the specialized medium of laser animation where he reintroduces familiar narratives, sometimes partially rendered or in the process of abstraction. He has exhibited across Europe and the US also wrote and directed the opera Last Days, which premiered at the Royal Opera House, London (2023). He currently lives and works between London and Los Angeles.
