The best of avant-rock collide with griot traditions from Burkina Faso when the deeply original band Avalanche Kaito takes the stage.
With a mesmerizing blend of trance-inducing rhythms, scratchy noise guitar, electronic collages, griot vocals and traditional African instruments, the band delivers a sound like nothing else, yet it immediately gets the party started.
When traditional griot singer Kaito Winse met experimental drummer Benjamin Chaval and anarchic punk guitarist and improv musician Nico Gitto, an unexpected musical space was created that led to an acclaimed debut album in 2022. The album paved the way for a series of successful shows at festivals like Supersonic, Womex and End of The Road, as well as a KEXP session that shows just how strong a live band Avalanche Kaito is.
This year they released the album Talitakum, which sets an even higher standard for musical diversity with equal parts inspiration from punk, Captain Beefheart, surrealism, and African polyrhythms and with Kaito Winse's stream-of-consciousness-like vocals as an undeniable signature. Avalanche Kaito is a killer live act, so don't miss their show at this year's Roskilde Festival.
