New encounters between ambient sounds, improvisation, and homemade instruments

With unique home-built string instruments and great musical openness, Blue Lake weaves the audience into warm and organic waves of sound.

Behind the project is Copenhagen-based American multi-instrumentalist Jason Duncan, whose original approach has thrilled listeners and critics alike. His album Sun Arcs, released on Tonal Union in 2023, was featured as Best New Music on Pitchfork, which in a rave review highlighted Blue Lake's tactile and intimate encounter between jazz, ambient and American folk music.

It is music that is both welcoming and experimental. And in the creative Danish music scene, Blue Lake has found playmates who bring the many musical layers to life on stage in a meeting between clarinet, pump organ, double bass and not least Duncan's own unusual instruments, which, inspired by both the North European zither and the Chinese guzheng, produce trance-inducing presence.

With jazzy improvisations, organic ambient and surprising constellations of sound, Blue Lake is now ready to create an enchanting concert experience on Roskilde Festival's Platform stage.
