Beats, banjo and powerful songs from rising glam country star

  • Thursday 3 July

In just a few short years, Nashville-based singer-songwriter Tanner Adell has become one of the most talked-about young voices on the country music scene - and an artist who bridges the gap between the traditions of country music and modern pop with hip-hop-inspired beats.

Her distinct style and irresistible voice shines through on the song "Buckle Bunny", the title track of her acclaimed 2023 mixtape. The song became a massive viral hit on TikTok with its bold and catchy blend of country banjo, pop and hip-hop, cementing Adell's status as a musical powerhouse and genre bridge builder.

The song was also named one of the best songs of 2023 by NPR, and there was no shortage of praise for the overall mixtape, which landed on the New York Times Best Albums. Beyoncé was also impressed and invited the young singer to appear on the landmark album Cowboy Carter. Here she can be heard on the reinterpretation of The Beatles' "Blackbird", where her blend of country roots and pop charisma fits like a glove.

Like Beyoncé, she challenges the conventional wisdom that country is only for white people. And with what she calls "glam country", she brings a colorful take on the genre, which is also expressed in her amazing shows, where country's authentic nerve is combined with glitter and girl power. Her debut album is on its way, and a solid glam country party awaits at Roskilde Festival this summer.
