Sublime singer returns to Roskilde Festival with dance-friendly gospel ecstasy

  • Friday 4 July

After delivering one of the biggest revelations at Roskilde Festival in 2023—where she performed one of her very first international concerts—Ghanaian gospel queen Florence Adooni returns to bring yet another round of musical ecstasy with her funky band.

This time, she arrives with the brand-new album A.O.E.I.U. (An Ordinary Exercise In Unity), her international debut, produced in collaboration with Max Weissenfeldt (The Heliocentrics). Here, Florence Adooni crafts a lavish fusion of traditional Frafra gospel, highlife, funk, disco, and cosmic jazz—elevated by an otherworldly voice.

In her home country, Adooni is already a star, having collaborated with kologo master Guy One. She has even earned the nickname The Queen of Frafra Gospel on the Ghanaian music scene—an energetic and spiritual sound rooted in northern Ghana, which she seamlessly blends with the groovy polyrhythms of West African highlife music.

In 2021, the rest of the world began to take notice of the dazzling vocalist, partly due to her collaboration with Finnish electronic musician Jimi Tenor. And when Florence Adooni took the stage at Roskilde Festival in 2023, delivering one of her first international performances, she and her stellar band offered a sumptuous showcase of Frafra gospel and highlife. This summer, the stage is set for yet another fantastic gospel session at Roskilde Festival.
