Groovy highlife kings bring a lavish all-star team of African legends

  • Thursday 3 July

For fans of groovy West African genres such as Afrobeat and highlife, Kwashibu Area Band will be throwing a party when they visit Roskilde Festival.

Since the band was founded in Ghana in 2015 by Kwame Yeboah and Ben Abarbanel-Wolffhar, they have been a leading force in bridging the gap between the historical roots of highlife music and a modern tone. They have done so with a nerve and funky energy that has made them a hugely popular name at festivals around the world, where they inevitably set the dancefloor alight.

Kwashibu Area Band has made a name for themselves in collaboration with Ghanaian highlife legend and singer Pat Thomas, with whom they have released several acclaimed albums. With Pat Thomas, they also conquered Roskilde Festival with a blast of a concert in 2016. A concert that has no doubt made many dream of a return.

We are therefore excited to see the band visit Roskilde Festival this summer, where they will perform material from a new album with an all-star team of masterful musicians. In addition to Pat Thomas, the band brings legendary disco-inspired drummer Charles Amoah and the almost shamanistic presence of vocalist K.O.G. (Onipa). It's time to dance!
