Superior drum rhythms, an impressive vocal flow and an almost electric live energy. American musician Kassa Overall is a maverick who has created his own rhythmic and poetic style with elements of jazz, hip-hop, funk and avant-garde experimentation.
Kassa Overall uses his virtuoso fusion of musical elements as a backdrop for highly personal and socially critical songs that poignantly revolve around both his own experiences with mental health problems and the injustice and racist structures of society.
He takes painful experiences and transforms them into an infectious and life-affirming musical experience together with his fantastic band. The energy is evident on his Tiny Desk concert from 2023 and the release Live at Third Man Records from 2024.
Kassa Overall debuted in 2019 with the album Go Get Ice Cream and Listen to Jazz. Since then, he has collaborated with Yoko Ono, Arto Lindsay, Vijay Iyer, Aaron Parks and others, and in 2023 he released Animals on Warp Records, which was highly praised by the music press. "Eclectic and forward-thinking" wrote PopMatters, among others. In 2025, a new album is released on Warp and with that fresh from the press, the master visits Roskilde Festival.
