Two of the leading forces in Palestinian hip-hop come together when producer Al Nather and rapper/songwriter Shabjdeed bring their multifaceted sound to Roskilde Festival.
Shabjdeed & Al Nather already caused a stir throughout the Arab music world with their debut album Sindibad el Ward, released in 2019, which Scene Noise magazine called "a milestone for Arabic hip-hop". Here they unfold a universe that is both musically curious with elements of jazz, avant-garde, British grime sound and trap beats, and lyrically offer a deeply original expression between raw realism and poetic nerve.
The duo impressively embrace complex depictions of life in Palestine, conveyed through diverse characters that give a polyphony to the lyrics, often rapped in Palestinian dialects.
In 2024, the duo finally followed up with the new album Sultan, which embraces even more lyrically and musically with multifaceted depictions of Palestinian and Arab identity and a soundtrack where traditional Palestinian wedding music, hip-hop and drum and bass merge in a futuristic universe that we look forward to experiencing live at this year's Roskilde Festival.
