Tour de force of infectious Latin rhythms and sonic experiments from psychedelic masters

  • Wednesday 2 July

Attending a Meridian Brothers concert is like moving in a fever dream through a variegated psychedelic landscape of Latin American musical traditions. Everything from cumbia and rumba to Brazilian tropicalia and Afro-Colombian rhythms merge and mutate into new forms, aided by elements of psych rock, quirky electronic sounds and an experimental approach.

The band was founded in 1998 by creative Colombian legend Eblis Alvarez, who has been paving new and avant-garde paths for Latin American music for decades with a multitude of different projects. One of his most charming and successful projects is undoubtedly Meridian Brothers, which has managed to combine eccentric experimentation and an almost encyclopedic understanding of music with humor, bite and deeply engaging rhythms.

It's a cocktail that has made the band a surefire live hit, smoothly alternating between the funky and the unpredictable. It's avant-garde that you can dance to, as audiences at Roskilde Festival have previously witnessed, and the Meridian Brothers have created excitement at a host of international festivals.

Their latest album, Mi Latinoamérica Sufre, once again showcases the Meridian Brothers' bubbling creative energy with a tour de force through both Latin American and African rhythms with the band's acidic sonic detours. And we can't wait to experience Bogotá's psychedelic masters at Roskilde Festival again.
