Call

Open Call for The Circular Lab in 2024 has closed. Find out here how we evaluate applicants and prepare yourself to participate in 2025.

SCROLL DOWN

Do you have a new solution that can contribute to recycling rather than discarding? Do you want to test if your circular business model holds up? Or are you developing a product, a design, a rental solution, or new working methods that can contribute to a circular future?

Then you can participate when The Circular Lab offers the entire Roskilde Festival as a test platform for circular products and ideas.

With 130,000 residents, Roskilde Festival shapes up as Denmark's fourth-largest city and Denmark's largest test laboratory for circular ideas for eight days.

Here, in easily accessible and forgiving settings, you can gather knowledge and data on guests' interaction with your solution, or you can stress test it in a lively environment with many people.

Application and Evaluation Process

The Call for 2024 is closed now, but you are always welcome to contact The Circular Laboratory to:

  • Inquire about other testing opportunities in 2024
  • Have a dialogue about whether it would be relevant for you to test in 2025

Before you continue reading, you can meet some of the young entrepreneurs who participated in The Circular Laboratory at Roskilde Festival 2023:

What you get from testing your solution through The Circular Laboratory:

  • Opportunity to test in Denmark's largest test laboratory for circular innovation
  • Assistance in implementing your test in the most relevant areas of the festival
  • Access to a network consisting of The Circular Laboratory partners and other entrepreneurs
  • Exposure to relevant target groups
  • A spot in our test workshops before, during, and after the festival, where you will be taught about test design, validation, and how to use your collected data to raise investment or enter the market
  • Opportunity to seek funding through The Circular Laboratory for adjustments to the prototypes/systems you need to test
  • Free access to office coworking space and guidance in the innovation hub KU Lighthouse in Copenhagen
  • Invitations to other events, knowledge sharing, and testing opportunities

Expectations and conditions

If you become part of The Circular Laboratory's test platform, we expect that you

  • Share the knowledge you gather with the laboratory and assist in answering evaluations
  • Demonstrate a certain level of commitment/work effort in connection with the test
  • Adhere to the contract we prepare and sign
  • Attend test preparation workshops and other events before and after the test

Finances:

The Circular Lab covers access to the festival, and besides the admission ticket, you can easily apply to have expenses covered for, for example, adjustments to prototypes, transportation, and purchase/rental of the small items you need to make the test successful.

Where at the festival can you test?

You can test your solution in several places at the festival:

  • We have a dedicated area where we gather entrepreneurs who primarily need user feedback on, for example, design, idea, or taste.
  • If you need to test in collaboration with one of the festival's partners – perhaps you have developed a coffee cup that needs testing in a coffee bar, or a product that is best tested in a specific area – we will help you place yourself and your test in the right place.

Selection Criteria

We evaluate applications based on the following criteria:

  • Test readiness (are you at a stage in your development where you need validation?)
  • Innovation and creativity
  • Significance in solving an issue
  • Degree of value added to the green transition
  • Scalability
  • Age: The Circular Laboratory's target group is primarily entrepreneurs under 30 years old, but we do have the option to admit a certain percentage of participants from another age group.

It is not a requirement that the solutions in their final form cater to a festival market. As long as the product can be tested within the festival's framework and has the potential to contribute to a circular society, your application is justified.

Questions?
