English musician and poet Alabaster DePlume is a creative maverick who is not easily pigeonholed. You could call DePlume, who releases on the progressive American label International Anthem, a jazz musician of sorts, but that only captures a sliver of his visionary expression, where life and art merge into one cosmic entity.
DePlume insists on seeing the dignity and uniqueness in every human being. This is also reflected in his music, which is more concerned with making room for each musician's distinctive voice than with creating stylish genre expressions. His music stands in solidarity with a vulnerable humanity, resulting in a poetic and psychedelic expression that celebrates the healing nature of community and criticizes the brutality of power.
As a bandleader, DePlume has a knack for bringing great musicians together and inspiring them to explore new aspects of their sound. And as a performer, he creates trippy sessions where the sense of belonging extends to the audience, who are invited into a generous community.
In 2024, Alabaster DePlume released his first poetry collection, accompanied by the EP Cremisan: Prologue To A Blade. This year, he followed up with the album A Blade Because A Blade Is Whole, which has received high praise and was described by The Skinny as a beautiful and healing work. That’s exactly what you can expect when Alabaster DePlume takes the stage at Roskilde Festival with his outstanding ensemble to create a healing musical experience.
