English musician and poet Alabaster DePlume is a creative maverick who is not easily pigeonholed. You could call DePlume, who releases on the progressive American label International Anthem, a jazz musician of sorts, but that only captures a sliver of his visionary expression, where life and art merge into one cosmic entity.
DePlume insists on seeing the dignity and uniqueness in every human being. This is also reflected in his music, which is more concerned with making room for each musician's distinctive voice than with creating stylish genre expressions. His music stands in solidarity with a vulnerable humanity, resulting in a poetic and psychedelic expression that celebrates the healing nature of community and criticizes the brutality of power.
As a bandleader, DePlume has a knack for bringing great musicians together and inspiring them to explore new aspects of their sound. And as a performer, he creates trippy sessions where the sense of belonging extends to the audience, who are invited into a generous community.
In 2024, Alabaster DePlume released his first collection of poetry, which has been accompanied by the Cremisan: Prologue To A Blade EP, partially recorded in Palestine with local musicians. Now, Alabaster DePlume and his outstanding ensemble are ready to create a healing musical experience at Roskilde Festival.
